Could whoever (Graeme?) came up with the RedLog format and the Redspace format take the time to create a RedLog to Redspace and/or Rec709 LUT for Color? I'm using the standard Color supplied LogtoLin LUT now and it works great but it would be so much more dialed in if the LUT was built specifically for the Red color spaces. No one knows what RedLog and Redspace really is in scientific terms (outside of Red & Assimilate), that's why I'm asking Red to do this or publish the relevant data for a third party to do this.

Hope this is not a unreasonable request.

thanks!

This has been asked for time and time again, but it seems to be a secret. The closest I have seen to an answer are Stu's log to lin gammas for Shake and a few other applications. These seem to be log to lin and not log to gamma corrected lin which I imagine is what you are looking for.

The redspace LUT is out there if you want it.

Nothing would please me more than a redlog LUT for Color, but it's in no way RED's responsibility to produce LUTs for every application. As to why they seem so reluctant to provide any information on redlog is a mystery to me.

These LUTs have been *publicly* available for several months now, and I have posted about this before. If you download the SCRATCH Rednode from the Support site and unzip it, you will find a folder of RED LUTs in it.

Those are all 1D XML LUTs for:

PDLog685
PDLog985
RedLog
Rec709
REDspace
REDLog.

Then you can see the curves for yourself and use them however you think is appropriate.

I'll ask Jarred to see if it's appropriate to put these LUTs somewhere on Reduser.

Best,

Lucas

Thanks luki. It's nice of you to provide information that helps people use your competitors' applications.

Now we just need a way to convert the xml lut to mga.

How about 5 seconds and a Google search of "mga lut conversion?"

First hit:

Steve Shaw is a smart guy, and a lot of people use his LUT tools.

Or, you could contact Pandora directly and ask them how to do it...

Or, you could open an MGA LUT and the RED LUTs in Notepad and see what the differences are and do it yourself with a combination of Excel and Word.

LUT translation is always just a matter of text formatting. Unless a LUT is encrypted or binary, you can convert any 1D LUT format to any other 1D LUT format with Notepad and Excel.

I actually did spend a lot of time this morning looking at how to convert it. I was searching for "xml mga lut" and didn't get much.

And yes, I was also looking at the two types of lut in notepad as well :) The fact that the xml has 3 values per line and the mga has 4 combined with one being called 1D and the other being called 3D lead me to the conclusion that it might be beyond my skill.

Thanks again for the suggestions
