  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hang, hang, hang....

It's likely a firmware fix but I dare say it could be something within the camera that is different from unit to unit.

I do believe that not two cameras are exactly the same, even when leaving red factory and difference get bigger with the camera life. And this is not specific to red. I know people that do test several exact same model of camera sometimes even from different rental house and choose some from the lot...

I haven't had too much problem with the boot up hang, but I agree that it is always a bit scary and even if the camera had always booted on second time, most of the time I am watching (or listening) if it really boots on second attempt...thinking don't let me down now in the middle of this production...;-)
I had never need to unplug the lcd, drive or evf to have the camera boot up (I don't use red battery but cityteck 190w/h).

Personally I always wait at least 5 seconds (and normally more likely 10 or more seconds) before rebooting the camera, for boot up hang, camera firmware update, black shading, etc...

ciao,
antoine.

I used to only have this problem on rare occasions.

On my shoot yesterday it happened about six times.

Yes, we work around by unplugging the LCD and rebooting - but when will there be a fix for this?

Had a bunch of "first time" RED folk on set (including director and producer).

We managed to "smokescreen" it a bit - but it ain't good!

Fix please!

For All

I read some where that if you close the aperture on the lens while booting the camera will not hang. Also if the port cover is still attached the camera will not hang.

I have had a few instances when the camera hung while booting and as soon as I placed the lens cap over the lens, moments later the boot cycle continued.

Coincidence? maybe, but try it you might be surprised.

Seriously

Method

that just sounds like rumor bs.

LCD and EVF cable interchangeable

LCD and EVF cable interchangeable

Aren't they interchangable?

Dylan - not really. According to Arno in France, he had the EVF blew when the wrong cable was connected. For now, best to keep the cable separate - EVF has the two right angled cable. Arno may want to elaborate here - Lim

Thanks Ryan and Twlim.

I'll try that tonight.
