  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Mount + Canon EF lenses = Which Matte-Box?

Gibby, I really appreciate getting concise information from someone with experience using the products and having produced footage that is already being broadcast.

Lee makes a similar product to the Cokin that might be better again for you Peter.

I've asked the same questions as you--have a RR, which I like, but which I find heavy/cumbersome for quicker moving work.

what lenses will you be using? i'm assuming you'll be using some zooms--which ones?

I've got the Lee system with their bellows sunshade which I've used with my DVX100A.

It's fine as lightweight filter holder, but it's doesn't hold the sunshade tight enough to avoid slippage of the shade when motion shooting and swinging the camera about. Some tape can stop slippage but that's not a very tidy or satisfying solution in that respect. May try modifying it to fix the problem. It wouldn't stand up to being knocked about much though.

Haven't tried the Cokin, so can't compare their performance.

Hi Paul!

I have not hear about "Lee". Is there a site to see his product?

I will be using the Red One with the following lenses:

- Canon EF 16~35 mm f/2.8 L - II - USM zoom lens
- Canon EF 24~70 mm f/2.8 L - USM zoom lens
- Canon EF 70~200 mm f/2.8 L - IS - USM zoom lens
- Canon EF 100~400 mm f/4.5~5.6 L - IS - USM zoom lens
- Canon EF 180 mm f/3.5 L - Macro - USM macro lens
- Canon TS-E 24 mm f/3.5 L tilt-shift lens

Cheers...

Peter

Thanks Nils! But I could not find a matte-box attachment similar to what Cokin has on offer... Are You using these? What are they like with quality & price compared to Cokin?

Looks like the new ARRI "surprise" was actually for Sony, not Red One - due to it's side-loading filters...

For now I will either go with the MB-15 (ARRI) or get the Cokin to tie me over until hopefully ARRI comes out with something like the EX1, but top-loading... :)
