  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

my EOS "smart" mount...

Hi Andy, I PM'd you last week about being put on your list but didn't get an email on the weekend.
I would like the option of just purchasing the mount now the way it is and when it is time to update I will just get another one.

As I said before in my PM I am willing to take a "dumb mount" that I can put FD lenses on RIGHT NOW. So if you have an older test model just sitting on the shelf give me a price.

Hi Andy, can you add me to the list for a basic dumb mount.
I don't use Canon lenses but I'm assuming I can attach Zeiss ZF & Leica R lenses,I know adaptors are available for them. That at least gives me a couple more options until the IMS thing gets sorted out.
Tom.

Ok, Here's my weekly update. There hasn't been an Idle second since my
last post... it's been a huge week, lot's is getting done.. and some more
improvements have taken place as well and more to come... all due to your
feedback... so here's where we're at right now...

-PreOrders.. I have everyone's pm's I just haven't had time to get back to you all yet!
I wasn't really expecting such a huge flood... (not that it's a bad thing..)
- starting next week, I have another person that's going to be helping me, to handle all request, orders, business stuff. ect...
I just can't do it all. and I hate frustrating people. so I've got help on the way.

3 big things...
1. I have taken the liberty to improve upon canons lens mount design a bit...
take a look at the first attached image, to see what I mean..

2. I have completely re-designed the controller for the lens, attached are
the new 3d renders of the controller.. We now have a control knob a rather
large control knob... It's much more intuitive as well as looks bad ass...
also when pressed acts as a mode switch.... I call it the "if Darth Vader had designed an iPod look..."
It has as of this morning gone to production. The new backlit lcd is great
as well. here is a link to the LCD up and running on my dev-station.
>> LCD MOVIE <<

3. I have finished a little instructional video on installation of the mount..
it can be found here...... PL > EOS in less then 5min...
>> MOUNT INSTALL VIDEO << 39meg
>> MOUNT INSTALL VIDEO << iPhone/iPod ver. 8meg

so that's the current update on what's been happening the last week. there
is more news coming very soon, hopefully with additional people on my team
we can shorten up this feedback loop a bit. and I can focus 100% on making
a kick ass product... also coming up next week, some "mythbusters style" mount stress tests!
yeah, we're going to setup a rig that rips lenses off of mockup-cameras... that should be fun!

I am expecting my first batch of orders to be ready next friday.
those in the beginning of the list should be contacted by tues/wed of next week for more info...
(pending parts arrival on wednesday as expected)

-Thanks for everyone's support... and rest assured I'm not resting untill
it's shipping and everyone is happy... now back to circuit layout for me... I still need to get pcb's shipped... ;)

-Andy

Can we use ViewFactor's follow focus with this mount?

Congrats on the rapid progress you're making. Very impressed.

Give this thing a name...

I laughed at your reference to Darth Vader. Maybe this could be called "The Vader Mount."

One thing to note is that a follow focus knob needs a removable ring that can be witness marked for each lens as well as for measured focus marks. Smooth white plastic to write on with non-permanent marker.

just getting 2 pages of garbled notes and no video from your link Andy???

Joe,
This is an issue with some browsers (try firefox). You can try downloading the files and strip off the ".txt" extension that is probably attached. Then they should play back fine. (That's what I did after downloading them using Safari.)

I don't think that that is a follow focus knob. I think it is just for iris. But I could be wrong.

Okay, I mistook it for the "advanced" controller that was mentioned with the earlier renders.

Is it full stop increments or 1/2 or 1/3? I'm not sure but I think the Canon lenses can do 1/3 stop increments. I'm also pretty sure that it is discrete increments and so there will be no pulling the iris with the SLR glass.

PM me if you want to make corrections.....I am doing this just for myself and not aff

alesniak my EOS "smart" mount...

(This isn't a fancy pancy list but if you have anything to add “LIKE YOUR PM TIME” and if you want to go ahead and send me a PM. I won't say that if you just put up a post I will read it so best to PM me. Now Andy said that this week he will have extra help and be sending out confirmations.) This list is just a rough idea so that people who are thinking about ordering will have an idea of when they might receive theirs. Keep in mind that he also wants to get it OK'd from RED, (as noted below).
Also posted Andy said, “I am expecting my first batch of orders to be ready next friday.

My guess after seeing 3rd party units delayed that are a lot less technically complex, (ie. Element Technica's V dock mount delayed for 3 weeks after they said they were ready to ship.), will be the end of October. I think that is being realistically optimistic.

Okay, looking at the video, the LED first says "f/stop" then "focus." Is this the "mode switch" you describe, Andy? If so, that's pretty bad-ass; you'd want a dedicated follow focus knob, of course, but it would be great to have the capability right there in a pinch (or until the knobs are ready).
