I'm not sure whether this is correct or not, but according to IMDB, the new film ('District 9') currently being shot by Neill Blomkamp and produced by Peter Jackson will involve a RED Camera.

Here's the link to the Cast and Crew page. If you scroll down to 'Camera and Electrical Department' there is red camera supervisor.

It would make sense that Neill Blomkamp is partly using the Red camera since he was an additional director with PJ on 'Crossing the Line'.

Is there any more information about this and whether it is correct or no?

Thanks.

I live in SA as well, and apparently- according to the word in the industry they have had no end of problems, however this info comes from a guy who has been selling Sony his whole life and is currently trying to get me to cancel my Red order to buy and XDCam or something, so I'm not sure whether to believe it or not...

Not true!

On a long shoot in harsh conditions things do break just as they do on a 35mm shoot, but with good planning and a talented crew your prepared and it's not a big deal.

To be honest on the 4 features that have shot RED that I have worked on there have been no huge problems.

BTW MvG, RED One should be compared to the Sony F35 (S35mm size sensor, PL mount) digital cinema camera not the XDCAM-HD range. Depends what you want the camera for.

Over 90 RED shooting days on set and counting.

So it seems that apart from the mystery of this movie's plot, even the use of the Red camera is a bit secretive ...

"District 9" was shot with Peter Jackson's Red Cameras. Technically there wasn't many technical problems with cameras. I am told the Reds held up quite nice in the wind, dust, etc. I am not sure whether the cameras are the same ones Pete had on "Crossing the Line", but I am sure if they were, they would have been overhauled since then.

Neill Blomkamp was the Director and Peter Jackson produced the project. Shot in South Africa and Lesotho.

I believe Sony is the "sponsoring" Studio for this project.

My cameras were in in Swaziland and Israel this month, they were rock solid too.
