What the...

I saw this on the blog of one of our Japanese posters here and I was like... I couldn't find a link or any more info. It apparently says T2.5 on the side.

didn't i hear something about affordable anamorphics from Hawk?

It is the handsdown best superwide angle zoom in the world. It's spherical, corrected for distortion and kicks ass. I got a quote from Vantage for the lens and decided to leave that one for the big rental houses. Think angenieux optimo for the price range. I also love their 150-450 2.8 zoom. Best long range zoom out there.

That image looks like a photoshopped mockup. The barrels don't quite match up and sections of it look computer generated while others look like composited pictures- and some of the text doesn't conform to the surface it is supposed to be engraved into.

This makes me believe that they are jumping the gun and announcing a lens that is still in development.

Of course it's a photoshop, they all are by now since it's quicker, cheaper and a lot of the times nicer, but I don't think that Hawk with their reputation would announce things they can't promise.

I used the lens 2 years ago it's not a fake mockup at all. I had a camera Package rented from Vantage in Prague with all Angenieux Zooms and Cooke primes and they threw the 10-24 and the 150-450 into the package so I can try them out.
It's been a sucessfull tactic since I've requested the lenses on some jobs later.

So the lens is rectilinear?

What is the price? Do they sell them? I could not find anything about purchasing on their website.

An underwater filmmaker's wet dream so to speak...

can someone loan me $73,053.24 USD. actually I probably can come up with the $53.24 ..

thats how much the optimo i looked at cost :/

I was offered a test with it a few months ago, but since it was to be put inside an underwater housing that I myself was testing, I passed on the opportunity, what with the $70K price tag. We were testing a double lock seal on the dome to housing connection to 13 atm (120 meters/400 feet) and that dive was long and complex enough to complete without throwing in a test for a wide zoom that I couldn't even test properly since I had no focus or zoom gears. In hindsight, I regret having passed on the opportunity but then a few weeks later I saw some test images of that same lens against a Canon 10-22mm still lens and, forgive me lord for the sin I'm about to commit, the Canon looked considerably sharper edge to edge projected on a big screen....go figure...
