From Canon Rumors today. It says the 500D will come this Spring...

The 500D
Resolution: 15mp
Proc: DIGIC IV
LCD: 3" VGA LCD
FPS: 3.5
ISO: 100-3200
AF: 9 point
Memory: SD Card
Feature: Liveview (Faster AF)
Feature: HDMI Out
Feature: Movie Mode (I'm told with a form of AF)

Hhhmmmm... chances are, this camera is going to be very cheap - around $1,000 USD. Coupled with a Cineform HDMI Recorder ($2,000), we're talking about maybe $3,000 for a pretty nice setup.

No idea if this will record audio or not, but for music videos, nature stock footage, etc, sound is not a big deal.

Still missing RAW, of course.

I don't think so. It will probably look a lot like the 450D (XSi).

The sensor is obviously smaller (APS-C), but it's still the same size as Red One's sensor.

Canonrumors.com is like rickrolling and lolcatz combined: but without the accuracy or maturity. ;)

Au contraire, mon frère. I think Canon has co-opted this guy, and are now using him as a mouthpiece.

Cool stuff. If they're smart, and combine their DSLRs with the video department, and throw in 24p, they could positively destroy the Sony, Panasonic & JVC indie film offerings. Make an XL3 with an S35 sensor and an EOS mount. Awesome.

I'm sure that RED won't take it lying down, though, and will produce some extraordinary cameras as well. I do feel that Canon has the best shot at competing with Jim & Co. Next year is going to be awesome for digital cinema!

Canon's trademark lawsuit against this site went away extremely quickly.

I think they might have worked something out like you are suggesting.

I think so. :whistling:

Wow, business is war alright. Fullscale.

You got the propaganda, double agents, espionage, maneuvres, everything. :)

Let's see what the RED army's next move will be?

Will they annihilate the counter-revolutionaries or not?

The race for the ultimate thermo-DSLR weapon is on... :gun:
