I'm ready now to show here at RED User forum this extraordinary lens on RED using IMS.

You have to get IMS Leica-M mount to use this lens with IMS on RED.

As I said before this is not any sort of scientific test.

ALL SHOTS DONE AT WIDE OPEN OR MINIMUM APERTURE f/1.0.

It was a fast and dirty hand holding a camera in (available) light shooting that is later assembled in a mix of night shots through the city of Vienna around the place where I live.

Also it is a sort of very short "tribute" to "The Third Man" walk from the famous film.

Movie is processed in RED Alert (R3D to H264), it was between 250 and 640 ASA that depends on a shot, shutter speed was 1/32 and 1/48 that also depends on a shot.

Then shots were cut in QT and copy&paste in a file that assembled a final movie.

Slight CC in RED alert to reduce blue color (by 10% less) in some shots.

Post production look in Shake 4.1 using Truelight FilmLight plug-in, profile Kodak Vision Premier, display red 709, colour space video.

Output at 720p HD movie in H264 web compression..

Short conclusion:

Leica Noctilux 50mm f/1.0 (year 1982, 6 bit) is very fast and pretty sharp lens at wide open f/1.0.

Could be that the lens has some lens flare problems that you would like it or not but with a hope that the brand new Leica Noctilux 50 mm f/0.95 will not have any of that flaws and be even sharper at wide open.

We wait, test and see in February 2008.

Wow, all pics are identical to the M8.
Lampposts' mercury-vapor or Metal halide's color temperature is about 10,000K, it'll become blue halo, you can change to manual color temp setting to more than 7000K will eliminates those colors.

I use only noctilux last 27 years and M8 only, I don't use any other lenses at all. I started out M2R, M4, M6 then M8.
As a film-maker, I also used Bolex, CP16 to Arri 16SR were my early days cine-camera till 1987 .

Also I would say that every lens you ever use on your RED should be like a Noctilix.

Fast enough to shoot what-ever you want in any sort of lighting condition.

Next time I'll get Noctilux to test I'll keep in mind what you said.

Hopefully it will be the next generation of Noctilux 50mm f/0.95.

sorry it was a problem with iDisk Apple Server.

An now, the link works and video should play in QT.

The best requirements to play this video is to have 8-core Mac Pro and 30" display.

The minimum requirements is to have 17' or 15' Mac Book Pro 2.4 Ghz dual core and fit to 1920x1600 screen (external or laptop LCD).

The curiosity of this test is it was the fastest lens that shot ever with RED camera (4K).

The flange distance for M lenses is 27.80mm which is pretty far away from PL's 52mm.

I did extensive lens test during 1990.
Test was: The Canon L lens F1.0 and Noctilux F1.0; I had both lens that time, I was into night photography.

And the result was:
no comparison between 2 lenses.
Cannon L F1.0 50mm doesn't have any special character at all and try to copy the Leica's Noctilux character but color rendition (color saturation was dull) is not rich as the noctilux, and Noctilux has distinctive Boke character than canon L F1.0.

The truth of Canon L lenses has no color that means it's too safe (anyone love it and its weight is heavy) and its focus is not sharp as Noctilux, and Noctilux could too sharp, but you can argue with me, if you have proof.
I have proof.
Challenge me.
I am ready anytime.

I've gave my Canon L F1.0 back to dealer forever.
I don't wanna see it and I don't care in my life time.

I do not regret at all (return the Canon L F1.0) .

Comparing Noctilux and Canon L F1.0.
FORGET IT!

The Noctilux was the most powerful consumer lens available and it was the most renowned professional still photo lens in 35mm format world, the Noctilux lens is the LENS.

So many people hate the Noctilux because of the name, performance and the price.

I'll take them to my coffin or burn to hell with me.
