If I edit my medium sized proxies on my Quad Intel Mac can I reconnect to the 2k files for the online and render out a ProRes file? Then if I need to pull more information out of a shot I can go into RedAlert and re-export the 2k Quicktime wrapper?

Yes.

That is the main workflow that I use. Do some timing in RedAlert, then transcode Prores from the newly created proxies. It's important to get a feel for how it looks in RedAlert versus Quicktime. Generally it will look a little washed out in Redalert in order to look right in Quicktime.

I am starting an edit using the medium sized proxy files in Final Cut Pro. What is the best way to do the online after the edit? How can a connect these medium sized files to the half sized files after the edit? Can I just connect to the high sized files and then render the project out in ProRes in Final Cut Pro?

you're probablly going to want to digitize at some point rather than reconnect to higher res proxies, they're really only meant to be used as offline placeholders.

Do a search for Crimson Workflow and you'll have you're answer!

yes please, like thomtheeditor says ... do not finish with the proxies, they are NOT high quality, they are a proxies ! either spend a night rendering your rushes to uncompressed quicktimes from redcine, redalert or redrushes and used them to online/offline or use crimson !

Thanks
