Wow, what a cool effect!

In all seriousness, what were some of your other settings? Detail, OLPF comp, NR, etc?

When you go to another codec, does it work okay?

Detail=Med, Sharpen is 50, NR: off.

I've been trying with many, many other codecs, but I either get a black screen or some variation of this.

Also, I haven't been able to figure out, what does the kb/sec slider do in the output (isn't that determined by your compression settings?) Also, what does NR mean?

I saw that my kb/sec slider was at 0, so I tried to move it to 20000, but that didn't do anythig.

NR is noise reduction. It can smooth out some noise.

The kb/sec is your compression settings for the H264. Determines how much compression to use.

Just for kicks, export a DPX or TIFF sequence and see if there are any issues with those. That will at least give us a baseline to start from.

Are you working with build 16 footage? What version of Redcine?

thanks for the info.

DPX and TIFF both do the same thing and actually have the added bonus of actually turning the REDCINE screen into this result, instead of me waiting until I open the output files to see.

I'm working with build 16 footage, on the most recent build that my camera was shipped with, 3.2.5. It just came!

My Redcine is all updated, up to 3.1.2.

Doing more export tests with different codecs, settings, project ratios... and all fail.

Can you do snapshots? Does everything look normal while in Redcine?

I'm a Mac guy, so I don't know all of the PC requirements offhand. Only thing i can think of is to reinstall Redcine. Also, try to take the computer off the internet while you work with Redcine, see if that has any effect.

Internal pixel size off?

Can someone else open your R3D files and not see this sort of error?

It looks like the data for the image size if off, I see this sort of thing all the time when developing image I/O until the bugs are worked out with the relationship between the pixel bytes per pixel and the pixel count for the X and Y...

Try changing the color depth of your desktop, from 32bpp to 16bpp or 24bpp to 15bpp and see if anything changes, if it does then it might have to do with the computer video and not the source file data...

Your art work looks famliar. But join the crowd, I get all sorts of random samples like this beauty below. Its of my 4 year old daughter, she loves them, has a few hanging on her wall.
I call this " rouge bonheur beauté "

try exporting batches of no more han 10 minutes of footage. It is a know issue that Redcine does not like QTs - maybe try exporting an image sequence. And then create a Qt file from the sequence. Redcine works better with single frames than using qts files !

Wow! Andy Warhol meets Jackson Pollock, pretty impressive... admittedly I'd prefer to have the camera restrict itself to the technical role, and not try to do that much art direction...

Update:

I have not been able to test this out, but I've tried to troubleshoot this by bringing it into some very fast, updated computers.

They all had the same problem.

They also all had ATI cards. I'm thinking that this may be the problem. Can anyone confirm this?

If you're on a PC, I think nVidea is preferable...

Yes without a doubt - and a late and fast version. RedCine only works properly on one PC out of 6 here, fortunately the one I bought for the job, an HP 8710 laptop. It has Nvidia Quadro FX 3600 graphics. Other machines with FX1400 and FX1500 do not run properly.

So I suggest upgrade to Quadro FX 3600 minimum.

hi.
i have the same problem too. with redcine 312 try to export dpx or targa etc. and all of them give black. and and try to hd1080 and give me andy warhol work. nvidia card (on hp workstation 8400) and all codecs not help me. import to avid mc 3 and nitris ds, playback screen gives me damage picture.

Has anybody posted a logfile? Have you tried these things:

1) Uninstall/reinstall REDCINE
2) Uninstall/reinstall graphics driver
3) Make sure nothing else on system is screwing with file i/o? Firewalls and virus scanners are notorious for this.
4) Make sure this is not isolated to a few R3D files?
