  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Underwater housing?

Hi there - does nayone know of an underwater housing that will hold the red?
Thx.

We have been making them since September (prototypes) and regular units since March and have shipped about a dozen. Will have several more next week, total of eight aluminum units within two weeks - most for orders but a couple at the end of the run will be for sale or our rentals. $8999 sale 550/day 1900/week rent. We can rent the aluminum units as they are done. We also have two older PVC units in the rental pool.

I may have spoken to you a couple months ago, we were really overloaded both with sales and multiple rentals going on at once at that point but we are catching up a bit now and better able to handle either rental or sale.

PS thanx alexander (posted while I was composing this). My phone number is in signature.

Hi James,
We have a custom housing and the Red camera with a Nikon 17-35mm and a 14mm lens that work in the housing. The housing is equiped with an external LCD monitor. To make focusing easy all the focusing controls readily available. We also have a remote focus control with the HD-SDI video feed. Either a glass dome or a flat port is available. We have two underwater 70 watt HID lights if needed. We have shot numerous hours underwater in the ocean and have video on MammothHD.com in the RED Library Gallery/ENTER-RED 4K LIBRARY/Ocean Life/Underwater.

We used our custom designed housing for the pool scenes in the feature "Samantha Darco".

We live in Denver, Colorado. If you are interested in our services, please pm us.

Ken Corben (sharkguy) has his AquaVideo housing in LA with an Ultraprime 8R lens. Bert Skura based in LA will have his AquaVideo housing for rentals in another week or so. We have had one of our prototypes there as well, off and on since last November and will probably have a rental unit there permanently in a month or so as my brother is in Manhattan Beach and my nephew is a budding filmmaker - so plan to have one or more rental housings living either there or at Ken Corben's in Hollywood depending on his travel schedule.

Thanks AquaVideo, I'll be in contact with them. I'll let you know how it turns out!

Is there anyone who's have a underwater Red housing in EUROPE ?

Rental services?

Thank you

They look like some great housings!

Does anyone have a housing for rental in Australia or South East Asia?

Thank you!

Denson,

I have a housing for RED, which would have been all finished with servos and remote solenoid-operated power on/off, if not for my recent spinal injury.

It is designed to use Arri Master Prime 14mm for wide angle for critical focusing. To my knowledge, the only underwater housing that you can precisely adjust critical focus underwater. It also features unique CinePort optics resulting in high contrast and MTF.

The underwater kit comes with me as tech/operator (it is quite complex and order of a magnitude more expensive than the camera itself). Unfortunately, it is not just as simple as putting the camera inside it  But I need to fully recover from my injury first. At the moment I can't even walk or sit.

When do you need it?

Best to stay in touch by email: pawel.achtel (at) 24x7.com.au or you can give me a call anytime on 9983 0963 - I have phone at my bed.

If nothing else, I can at least put you in touch with other people in Sydney that may be able to help you out.

Thanks Pawel - Sorry to hear your troubles and I hope you get well soon. How long after your surgery until you will be able to shoot?

Vis a vis the underwater housing I had a call from a producer pitching on something who wanted to know about underwater shooting for the Red camera - I gave him the info I had at the time but I think the job is still in development hell - If anything changes I'll Pm you.

When you end up back in the shooting saddle (so to speak) I suggest getting an easyrig - Given the current Greengrass aesthetic, it makes life much easier on your back by spreading the the camera load to your legs (you feel it more in your thighs and your back feels no strain whatsoever) - with it you can do handheld all day with a Genesis. It's honestly a lifesaver.

Thanks again.

Actually, I never had any significant back problem from lugging my 80kg underwater camera rig while wearing 40kg of my diving gear at the same time. That's almost twice my body weight. That seems to fix back problems and keeps psychiatrist at bay too :clown2: . My injury happened while sitting on my bum in the office doing nothing for way too long

Element Technica also has an underwater housing. There is currently one of them, but there will be more in the near future. Currently compatible only with ultra primes. Full control over iris and focus, machined aluminum housing for deep water use, dome port, clear port on the back for viewing of the 5.6'' red monitor, and start/stop control.

Rental Agreement only, you cannot purchase their system, nice as it may be.

Cheers,
Mark.

Jack, I think I talked to someone at your office last night. I am about to ship one to Bert Skura in LA. Send me your contact info and I will try to hook you up. We need an idea of what lens you want to/can use.
