Nikon Super-Telephoto Suggestions

The Nikon 400mm f/2.8 is nice. Ken Rockwell review.

If you want a zoom, take a look at the 200-400mm f/4. Review. That one's a G lens, so you'll need a mount like Underdahl's.

I have the Nikon 400 ED f3.5 AIS with a 2x (TC-301) and 1.4x (TC-14B). This lens is a stop slower than the Nikon 400 f2.8, but it is smaller, lighter, and less expensive. It is very crisp at all apertures. I've been very happy with the results on RED One with his lens. Before I bought this lens I read every review of it I could find - and they were unanimous in their high praise of the lens. It is hard to find, but worth the effort. If you consider getting this lens make sure it is an AIS version because the improvements in glass and lens coatings in the AIS version were significant.
