  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How can i see the RAW image without a colorspace apply ?

I find it more accurate to shoot using VIEW: RAW to know exactly what the sensor did capture.

But i can't find a way in Red Alert or red Cine to see exactly what the sensor capture, just like ive did using the LCD with the camera using RAW viewing.

You have to put a colorspace (Redspace, cameraRGB and Rec709) absolutly to see the R3D ?

thanks

Etienne,
Just be aware that the RAW view isn't exactly what the sensor is capturing.
There is something more to the "look" than a bare RAW image...be aware this is something I found out the hard way.
Wish I had more answers but thought I'd mention this.

Ive found that for calibrate scene contrast, using Redspace View is very usuaful. But for seeing where it clip and determinate a stop on the lens, ive found Raw View more accurate for saving the highlights.

Redspace view on the LCD seem to "boost" the signal and i exactly want to know what range of information the sensor get.

But i will take care of what you said...

thanks

Hope this isn't a tangent, I think it relates to the subject.

Because of the color space differences, each space clips at a different exposure. Redspace first, then 709, then RAW. Obvious why when you see them onscreen, but how can you use this to your advantage?

If I'm in Redspace and the stoplights show clipping, I know that I haven't yet clipped in RAW so should I stop down or take a different approach in RedCine/Alert?

I've only been shooting for a week so this is still pretty new to me.

Thanks!

Things is, i'm going to film print... not HD (REC709)... so i want to shoot like Red is a film stock rated at 320, daylight. RAW VIEW on the LCD seem to me the most accurate way to do this...

What i see in my cam when i'm on VIEW RAW its not log, i know ! But when i apply OUTPUT: Redlog in Redalert its log, for sure, but its not the in-cam RAW VIEW that ive based my aperture and lighting when shooting.

I want to judge the RAW image (with no colorspace) on a bigger screen (computer monitor), not on a little 5'6 LCD on the camera...

I thought you couldn't actually view RAW as it is 12-bit so a color space will always be necessary.

In RA choose Linear Light as gamma space. In RC set gamma to 1. You will see the image demosaiced, but without gamma correction applied. This is basically what the sensor sees.
