So weird. Just unboxed my new camera, everything tested great. So happy. Thought I'd see some output on my HD monitor. Plugged in a standard HDMI cable and CRASH. Cam freezes up. Okay, shut down, reboot - nope - won't boot with HDMI cable attached, just reboots after a few minutes, and keeps rebooting. Remove cable, everything works fine. Attach cable, everything freezes again. WTF?

I must be doing something wrong - help?

I believe HDMI cables have two-way communication. I would say that certain monitors talk back to the Red in a way that it doesn't like. Perhaps a future firmware upgrade to teach Red to ignore whatever is coming back on the HDMI line.

I went through this crashing issue trying to pick up a cheap directors monitor at Best Buy. Some brands seem to work better than others. LG did not work for us. Samsung did.

I think you get what you pay for ;)

Can anyone from RED shed some insight on the HDMI issue?

I just picked up a top of the line 32" Panasonic 1080P LZ800 for HDMI monitoring (amazing blacks and better than Sony's XBR) and it crashes the camera. Every other camera I've tried on the set works with 1080P. The Sony Z7U and all Canon HDMI cameras with 1080P outputs work great with this set but it crashes the RED. Frustrating!

Is this something that is fixable with future firmware updates or should I be trying to return my new $1200 set?

the brand new samsung we tried didn't work.
