Save your Confederate money boys, these cases aren't worth the money.

We just received a case from RED for #2217, and are you ready for this? They sent us a Pelican case complete with Pelican's standard pick and pluck foam. . . completely unplucked! $600 for a completely off-the-shelf case that we could have purchased for $200 on Ebay!

Is that really true Stephen ? Unbelieveable ! What about the case for your other Red ? Or did you use something different with that ?

Stephen, I suggest you contact RED about this. Sounds like a mistake to me.

Who wants to screw on/off the tophandle every time the camera goes into the case. The red case is impractical IMHO. the camera must break down without tools and fit into the case. I designed mine to fit the camera with et bottom plate, 12" rods top and bottom, et small handle spacer, handle and part of the et evf mount in place. Also I have yet to come across a camera rental company that cases a camera lying on it's side.

Yes, it is absolutely true about our RED case. I was stunned. I am using different Pelican cases for my other two REDs. "Lewis" and "Clark" both have the big Pelican 1660 cases with pick 'n' pluck foam. Inside these cases, which are wheeled (but still quite heavy), are our REDs, on their mounts and dovetails and with their 18" rods in place and with the RED quickplate mounted to the top rails (no need to break it all down every time. . . what a nightmare!). In addition, I managed to fit in the Redrock mattebox, the RED battery charger, three RED batteries, the RED handle (which we take off in the box, but could be kept on the camera, but we do very little hand-held), our Redrock follow focus, the RED EVF, and a rather large space for miscellaneous goodies like Allen wrenches, audio cables, etc. We consider it an ideal case for the RED.

Hi Florian, do you have some picts of your case/s ?

Stephen, sounds like a good concept to me. Would you mind sending me some pictures ? We´re currently negotiating with two "casemakers" and aren´t sure exactly which way to go.

I´d send the Red case back if I were you. Or ask for the correct stuff. I mean, they describe the way it should be in the shop, right ?

I agree with Mr.Pruitt -

I have the RED case for one of my cameras and find it fairly limiting to how I want to work. I can't store my camera in the case without taking off some of the mounts and that is a real drag when you're trying to work quickly. The larger Pelican case I am using for the B camera provides us with much more flexibility because of the extra space. I think the real solution is buying a pluck foam case seeing how you are going to use your gear and then having some custom foam cut if you want to.

I'll try to post a picture later today. . . believe it or not, we have two REDs, but we don't have a digital camera.

:-)

Here is the layout as I submitted it to Encore Cases, Hollywood, Mark Fabela:

Office: 818-768-8803
mark@encorecases.com

and some pictures of the case filled. The LCD slot is reserved for the Pro LCD. The drives fit with the ET shockmount QR attached permanently. I had to modify the battery/quad charger compartment a little since it was 1/2" too small the way I drew it. It fits 4 batteries and the Red AC adapter.

Very nice case, Florian. Who manufactured it for you?

Thanks,
Rob Sweeney
