  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

playback system

no 40k is other system, and the one i am talking about is not mynsoftware, i started this thread asking what people recommend, and among some other solutions someone have offered this solution as well, then i contacted the company and they sent me trial and i just wrote my opinion that it seems to be the best solution in terms of functionality + price.

on the other hand vladus is designing other solution, which i like more and seems to be very well thought and designed, but it is 40k and if ypu can afford 40k then vladus is better, but if not the other one is good enough.

thats just my opinion

I'm a Video assist owner/operator and I'm using both SD and HD system when shooting with Red :

Raptor DDR's:

RAPTOR X (SD) : 6495.00 US$ + AJA downconverter

RAPTOR HD : 10 995.00 US$

Incredible plug & play machine!

Alx, the Raptor seems interesting. How do you capture the audio and TC signal at the moment to the Raptor? Until B17, the audio is not present in the HD-SDI output and also TC is now only available through TC out using the 5pin lemo. Lim

ok so here is my final opinion. DiVA seems nice, but I more details would be great including price. Other than that I chose by now to go with:

www.videoassist.com

it seems it does everything you would need from a video-assistant system. I already purchase canopus ADVC110 and have a 45 trial version of the system, I will test it all next week and tell you my opinion, but for the price point it seems quite interesting solution, even thou it is only SD.

Levan, any updates on your experience with your solution. Wonder how you can capture Red HD-SDI output with the canopus? Lim

I think 1500 was for Cinelogic software. DiVA software is 20k. Top MacPro configuration + 2x HD board + Touchscreen + HD LCD Monitor + Case + UPS + Cables is around 20k. That makes 40k for turnkey system.

Vladus, just PM you. Any news on your LITE version? Lim

I use the Raptor HD XLR input and record audio sended by the sound department.

I'm not using the TC besause I'm using the Raptor HD simply for Video Assist playback.

Aj-hpm110

Aj-hpm110

I'm using this beauty (not with RED...), but for just 17K$ its doing everything... it starts 10 seconds and stops in no time just flip the switch... is designed to work in a battle environment, its DVCPRO-HD and AVC-Intra (woowww) so its compatible with everything... it has TC I/O...

For some of you mite be a good solution... It doesn't do everything...

just my two eurocents...

You're right. Anyone looking for a simple/cheap solution can improvise and use tons of existing editing software to record clips and playback them instantly.

However, I was designing DIVA HDx2 with my own requirements as a commercials director:

1. I want to be able to see fullscreen incoming video with adjustments. I want to be able to view simple CC, DVE, MASK on live preview.

2. If I shoot vfx shot, I want to be able to do live overlay over recorded plate (blend, key or wipe)

3. I want to be able to do simple continuity cut of few shots.

4. I want to rate best takes, hide bad ones, quickly find and compare shots.

5. I want to playback at any speed, loop it, scrub it, reverse it.

6. I want to use two synced cams.

7. I want to be able to push live video to client, while reviewing my takes.

I just tried a demo of Vlado's Software, it is simply the best Video Assist package I have ever seen. Very impressive application!!!

Also, with the DiVA HDx systems... would it be possible to get gen lock, timecode, ect. So I could link 4 systems together for a 4 camera shoot? That way I can play back all 4 cameras through the system in sync with one another down to the frame.

DiVA supports timecode so there is a chance we might do slave version of software which could do synced capture and playback for other cameras.

Stay tuned :)

one question: why am I tied to AJA ? It should be qt-compatible and it would be possible to use everything from Blackmagic to Matrox if one wants to. If somebody has an affinity for one vendor due to codec or whatever it might suit better to use other hardware.

look pretty impressive though! respect.

We will support only high quality hardware, not every crapware that has QT driver. DiVA is a professional system for serious work and we'd like to keep it this way.

On the other hand, we will be testing and implementing support for various hw solutions that meet our requirements, so our clients could pick the ones that suits their business best.
