  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

"Knowing" Trailer is up on Apple

Yes, I am looking forward to seeing this.
Some of the crowd shots have some blown
highlights. I realize this is only a trailer.
It will be interesting to see how the "film" looks
in a theatre.

Interesting comment... which scene are you looking at? I couldn't find a scene with 100% clip on my Digital Meter. I looked at the "Dark Knight" trailer and found about the same level of "clip" in many of those scenes. I wonder if there isn't some degree of hyper-critical here? Please pick apart other movies shot on film to the same level you pick apart RED footage. I'm not saying that RED is film. But I am saying that "Knowing" looks incredible.

We are very proud to have this movie shot with the RED ONE. No excuses.

Jim

i am watching the 1080p on a eizo screen and on a 30" apple display and on both all looks simply great. the 1080p version is better than the 720p (you can see the difference at the shot at 21 seconds, in the middle a girl with bright cloth - at my displays and in the 1080p version there´s no clipping, its exposed very well.
so i think there can´t be a final judgement about clippings after seeing the trailer? it depends what display and what version you see.

i see no clippings here, i see simply a great image. hard to believe it´s not film ...

The QT version apple didnt have any crushed highlights for me but the wmv i watched a few days ago looked a bit hot.
Video on web is a dodgy way to measure quality anyway, plus many of our computer monitors are probably wrongly calibrated. Best way to judge, watch it in full quality.

jim, there are maybe some hyper-critical, but there is also hyper-applause -
for my part - a big sunday congrat to lake forest!

Simply looks amazingly Hollywood with big shoes.

Hard to tell it's not film.

...but the unmistakable silky and precise look of RED!!!

Just a few shots were hot for my taste. The editor in me wants to bring down the highlights all the time.
The trailer is amazing and I am hyped that it was shot on RED.
I just did a burn and encode to HD and played it back with my PS3 on a 52" LCD.
Looks fantastic....congratulations Jim J and RED!!

Oh...i have to add...after watching it again...

Yes you have all rights to be very proud!

You deserve it without any restriction.

Congrats to all the team!

Antoine

Don't judge the overall look from looking at an H.264 QT. It does funny things to the overall colorimetry and range of values from black to white. I've seen this footage in a proper DI environment on a very large screen, and it is fantastic. You will be impressed when you see it projected.

I haven't seen any of the previous posts on this movie. Is "Knowing" shot entirely with the Red camera? Trailer looks great. I'm actually having a hard time believing this was shot with the Red.

Wow! This excites me so much.... It was really hard to tell it wasn't film.

You guys should be happy the first Hollywood film shot entirely on RED is of such great quality! Entirely impressive!
