I'm little confused by a post on HD lenses on the Red. He stated that he uses HD lenses with the B4 mount but would only use cine lenses for narrative work so he can maintain a shallow DOF.

Is his assumption accurate? Would your DOF change when you move from an HD lens to a cine lens (assuming that your iris and focal length remain constant)?

Has anyone done any tests?

Thanks

with HD lenses and the B4 mount you just cover a 2k cropped area out of the 4K chip, if you go for 35mm cine lenses you can use the full 4K sensor with shallower DOF compared to the 2K cropped format.

thanks!
so looking at the image sensor specs on red.com, http://www.red.com/cameras/technology, it looks like the 2k image sensor area is about the same size as the 2/3" area. Would this mean that the Red camera at 2k has about the same DOF as my CineAlta 2/3" camera?

How much more DOF would the 2k Red have over the CineAlta since it's chip is on a single plane and slightly larger.
