  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A Couple Pics of the MicroMattebox

Got my Redrock mattebox today. The Finner Knob is even greater than I had imagined!

Reserved some time last year, paid on April 16th.

Received mine yesterday, and found no swing-away arm included. This is really frustrating. Have been waiting from April and now I can't even use it. Anybody had a similar experience with them? Overall the build quality looks very decent for the price.

That sucks about your swing away arm not coming with the MB. Once you get that all squared away I'm sure you will be happy with getting the RR MB. I had it on my Red for that Apple Store workflow presentation I did last week and everyone really liked the look of it.

Pierce, the FF is a Cinetech and I think I paid $1,700 for it over at EVS (Express Video Supply). I had to have the 19mm rod mount made for the FF by Cinetech.

What's the feeling of the Redrockmicro matte box holding up in a hire environment ?

Mine just came back from a month long rental and it seemed to hold up perfectly. Of course, this was to another RED owner on here, so it was probably babied more than other rentals. I really don't know what parts of it would break compared to the Arri. It's a pretty basic, solid design that should last quite a few years under heavy usage.

The edge of the mattebox sits just a little in the 4.5K area of the sensor at the distance I had it from the lens in the second set of pictures, with the focal distance of around 2ft?. I'm sure I could get it a little closer if I needed to but I would have to move the FF back a little because the adjustment on the mattebox was as far back as it gets.
Hey Drew,

Looks from your pics like you still have the matte in place when using the 18-50. Try removing the matte and you will probably find that you can clear the whole area at 18mm with close focus in a much more comfortable lens position...

Apologies if you've already tried this and just didn't bother to take out the matte for the photos!

I've taken out the matte and it does help a little bit. But for the most part I leave it in unless I need to be at 18mm and really close to the camera.

I'm curious about your 18mm problems. I have been using an ARRI 18mm Super Speed and had no problems with seeing the edges of the mattebox. I don't have pictures right now, but if you want I can post some.

Let me know.
