in case you missed it, or you decided to ignore it. Anyone who has a camera or works with footage from a Red needs to see what RED and Adobe have done.

Your offline files are your online files now :) No more need for proxies.

Thanks Jim and Jarred (and the rest of the RED team) for making this happen!

My motivations for accelerating this were purely selfish :)

heh heh heh... real thanks goes to Rob and Deanan and Adobe for doing all the real work.. so quickly.

Highly trained professionals are gonna hate this. This replaces the mystery in the workflow with magic!

Very impressive.

so I hit render with my titles , Dynamic linked AFX comps, and images Ive added.
Where is the render to r3d?
Can I export my timeline to RedCine?

now all we need is a plugin!!!! cmon guys, who needs sleep!!

just what I've been dreaming of

Excellent, simply excellent.
Adobe Premiere CS and Red One are, each alone, great tools - together they set new standards, for everyone.

We cant wait to unleash it here - and its pretty ironic that the Avid, Autodesk/discreet, Apple and Sony editors here are all diving into Premiere pro here now :)

Looks really amazing... I've never touched Premiere Pro before but this give me reason to do some cross training or a switch from FCS. Now I can actually put CS3 to use.

you know there is nothing stopping apple or avid implementing native r3d support. I think within a year everything will support it and we won't hear any more workflow moaning and nobody will want to go back to ingesting tapes , transcoding footage before you work with it or make changes. it really is an amazing time to be into this stuff and when we blink epic and monstro will have us all by the throats. I truly want to see RED equal and then surpass film. if anyone can do it they can :)

That's what I'm talking about. Glad to know we have a PC/Adobe man inside the Red operation.

If I understand Rob Lohmans well balanced posts in this regard and try to read between the lines I get the feeling that the upcoming PP Plugin will work well for sure but only RT in a 1/8 of 4K resolution. That is considerably less than SD - close to something what we had 15 years ago with Avid, say AVR5 or so.

I guess for many this will be disappointing.

Personally, I see that PP with its capabilities (resolution independent / 32 bit RGB, not tied to QT, DirectLink, etc...) can become poor mans Discreet Smoke and a very powerfull tool. Nontheless, the editing experience in any NLE with nice 1080p/702p proxies - generated with RedRushes, for instance - will be much, much better and client friendlier.

I think that this is the rise of a new postproduction format and using RAW files for compositing is truely revolutionary.

Having watched the video clips of how this plug is currently working am I correct in saying that you can only control resolution interpretation via Premiere ?

What happens if, like me, you work on single clips in AE and do not even own a copy of Premiere.

Is it possible to use this plug to work on R3D files in After Effects alone ?

from the adobe blog:

"whether you are only planning to use AfterEffects, you would need to still launch Premiere Pro to change the Global setting for your clips. You only need to do this for one clip. Once you’ve set it, the importer remembers the setting for R3D files of that size and will hold that setting until you change it again. You can set a different setting for each R3D type file. I have my 4096 x 2048 set to 1/8 which is 512x256. We all know this is not an ideal way to access the Global settings but it was a quick way to get the Importer working for the beta. REMEMBER, this an internal beta and not the public beta. If it’s at all possible, I personally would like to see a simple Adobe Air Application (all Adobe Air apps are Cross Platform) that brings up the Red Importer dialog box. Since these apps work like Widgets/Gadgets , you can call them forward at anytime. If you have not seen Adobe Air you should check it out on our main home page."

they are aware of that problem Geoff. its still an internal beta.
