Just a quick 'show of hands' really - as part of our development of the SolidStore part of our software includes an application that takes a single source file and makes a verified copy to two distinct locations (recursively).

We've briefly discussed porting this application to OS X and Windows and releasing it free (gratis) for use. Is this something people would use?

Basically you'd run it by giving it a source location, and two destinations. It will recursively copy the contents of the source into both destinations simultaneously while do a read-back verification of the written data to insure it is being copied correctly.

At this point it's pretty much built into our tools, but is something we could break out and port if people are interested. We've not really seen anything else like it.

that would be a great tool!

Sounds good. Is it hard to make it copy to more than 2 destinations?

I have bought R3D data manager, but you can never have too many options. Add my vote to the list.

I'm in and kudos to you for developing it and offering it.

Sounds like a consensus. I'll see if I can't get a version out sometime soon.

It's wouldn't he as user friendly as R3D Data Manager - just a simple command-line app, but could be handy for those quicky jobs of course.

The SolidStore keeps being delayed by infuriating hardware issues. We are currently scrambling for to find a new system board after our current one has proven unable to manage one of the fundamental requirements we have for it at the last minute.

I sat down a had a go at porting the copy functions into a stand-alone Windows program tonight. Which, given my lack of C experience, was fairly difficult.

I have a beta version available now... It's really simple - takes three options (source, destination 1, destination 2) and copies data to those both those locations. It verifies each file as it's written.

If you'd like a copy to play with then drop me a private message with your email address and I'll send it along.

It's really basic at the moment, but we'll probably end up rewriting the whole thing - this was just my little proof of concept.
