Was on a shoot last week end predominantly as DIT ended up helping FP and CA with camera handling throughout. Was a good shoot and all went well except when I noticed that the power section of the rear LCD kept switching between battery % and AC. I pulled the battery of the cradle between one of the setups and noticed that one of the connector slots at the bottom was partially melted.

Poor quality pic taken with my phones camera sorry for that. We replaced the battery and tried again same thing so we switched to mains. After a change of location switched back to battery and same happened we left it on AC for the remainder of the day. All up 3 bricks got melted slot holes this didn't effect any of the footage. This kit was hired and we returned it with an explanation of what happened.

Has this happened to any one? Is there a way to prevent this happening whiles on set? Would this hold a risk for the integrity of the data on the drive or CF?
Thanks guys.

Yeah I had the same thing happen.

Red sent me a new battery and replaced my battery plate - for the third time - but the new battery plates now have a slightly different design in the mounting region which is supposed to fix all these poor mounting consistency problems.

I haven't been able to check it out yet as I sent my screws back with the faulty unit and they didn't send me screws with the replacement. Still waiting.

The arrows on these images show the bits I think they have changed since the earlier system. However as I sent my old unit back I am working from memory as to what this part looked like before.

Ahhhh!!! so it's a problem with the mounting plate!! My third party battery melted too!! together with my battery plate...and i thought it was because i was not using Red Bricks!!!!

The camera has a lot of power supply problems with the battery plate, charger and the Red batteries.
I am sorry that I have to write it again but I see it as unacceptable:
Red invested in developing a good image but almost nothing beside that.
A good image can not be produced if power supply not functioning properly

Almost exclusively with the battery plate. But youre right, its unacceptable.

Jens, I had to replace my charger after some no hours of charging and I read many complains about the all power supply system. It is not only the battery!!!
They should fix that it is not a big deal every regular Sony camera has the V lock battery which is worse than the gold lock, so if Red wants to fix it they should offer a trade to Gold it is much more reliable.

Hot enough to melt, hummm.....

Yup, it happened to me too.

There rumors that Red is sick and tired of the current manufacture too.

Hope they find a better vendor.

Give them some times, they will fixed it.

Red should come up with a camera that not only create good image but also collaborate with its peripherals.
That is the only way it will not be a vanishing episode.

My shoot perhaps coldpizza :-) ?

Hi Jason yeah the very same shoot...
Thought it would be good to hear that this is being dealt with. Spoke to Lemac about it as this is not something I want to see happen again on a shoot. They are resolving it by having their own V lock plates made for the camera. That said I had a shoot the following Sunday and Monday with another Red kit, not one problem. Who knows may be a matter of luck with the bat mounts. This is not ideal but in the mean time as long as it doesn't effect the data no major problem I guess.

Wierd and thanks for sorting that out & my next 2 day shoot, another Lemac camera ex Brisbane no problems either.

The finished 'Centenary institute" job You originally posted about is up HERE on my website btw.

One shot, NO GRADING. looks great

I feel the v lock is not a secure design compared to Anton Bauer. I swapped to the AB plate. I have used AB for over 3 decades and have NEVER had a problem. The first time I mounted a Red battery on the v lock plate I pressed against the battery with my arm as I picked up the camera by the top handle and the battery just snapped off the plate and shot across the room. I looked carefully at the battery and at the mount and nothing was broken. So I tested trying to get the battery to pop off by twisting it with my hand. I found I could almost always get it to jump off the plate. That's when I ordered the AB. Very happy now.

Have you had any experience with the revised RED V mount?

It is MUCH more secure, so I very much doubt that the battery would do that or that you'd see any terminal pitting as described here.

Like all the other aspects of the camera - video performance, storage, audio - the battery and charger sub systems undergo constant improvement based on field feedback.

I'd suggest that you have the end user contact RED technical support if you are experiencing these kind of issues.

They'll be more than happy to take care of you.

Have you much experience with the redesigned V mount?

Stewart,

That would NO. This is the first I have heard of a revised V mount. My second Red One arrives Monday, so I will get to see it then. I know this has been asked before; Is it possible for Red to send global emails (or have a dedicated section of Red.com) to inform Red One owners of redesigns of accessories? This little redesign is also a potential saftey issue. You guys and gals at Red are spectacular when it comes to almost everything you do, but this forum is not completely read by all owners/users. On Monday, I'll try my twist off the battery test and I'll let you know my results.
