  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RedCine does not play 1:1 realtime even with 1/4 res.Medium. Why?

Hi all,

Has anyone checked RedCine playback speed with 4K footages? I tried playback with any lowest Proxies: 1/4 res.High or 1/4 res.Medium, It is not 1:1 realtime. 4K footages exactly play 1:1.4 realtime, 2K footage is OK, it plays 1:1 realtime. Does anyone know why?

My PC specs: WinXP with dual Intel Quadcore 5345, 4GB memory, Quadro FX5600, 4K footage on local harddrive (not raid, or this causes problem?)

Thanks everybody
Kim

Hi,

I just looked at your logfile. First - upgrade your graphics driver to 165.42. You have a fairly old driver installed.

Correct procedure for upgrading an NVidia driver:

1) Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> NVidia Drivers
2) Reboot
3) Install new drivers
4) Reboot.

You can download 165.42 from here:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_165.42.html

Also, make sure anything that affects system performance and file i/o is turned off. Here is a partial list:

1) Windows Firewall
2) Automatic Updates
3) File Indexing
4) jusched.exe (Java Update Service - almost always on and taking system resources)
5) ANY kind of anti-virus scanning software
6) ANY kind of adware scanning software

Hi Luki,

I hoped it runs well but...

This time is for testing and checking our machine before we join to cut feature.

So I've just reinstalled fresh Windows. Now my machine has only RedCine app inside, no Windows Firewall, deseclect Automatic Updates, no File Indexing,no run jusched.exe, no ANY kind of anti-virus scanning software, and no ANY kind of adware scanning software inside, and display card with 165.42 driver installed

But unfortunately, It still not 1:1 realtime 4k playback.

Have you ever been successful with 1:1 realtime 4k footage playback in your machine

Help please, how?

Thanks alots Luki

Hi John,

2k footage 1:1 realtime playback on my machine quadcore.
4k is no :(

If your R3D files are on the system drive, that could definitely be the problem. They don't need to be on a raid, but they should be on a fast, modern HD that can do better than 40MB per second. That means the drive should have no system files whatsoever (no OS, no pagefile, etc...), and be no more than 66% full.

I run R3D off external firewire 800 drives and am able to get realtime 4k at 1/4 res, and just a few frames slow for 1/2 res, and my machine is not as fast as yours.

John T.

Hi John,

I am big opening my eyes when I know you can play it realtime. I'd really want my machine be like that. If the problem is hd, i will build raid as soon as when we join to cut the film. As you see in my upper thread, hd also is matter I am wondering, and I hope the problem causes from hd not cause from RedCine capacity.

Thanks a lots John
Can you please share you logfile?
