  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

best way to film [a dark night sky] the air attack

Bump up your ISO and see what you get. What does everyone else think? I would bump up to 1000 ISO or even higher. Perhaps the shutter may have to be lowered as well, but I think if you raise the ISO you will get an image. It may have more grain but you should at least see something.

what lenses do you have?

Be careful man!

Take Care

Don’t film the air attacks...Survive them.

Film the after effects of what the air attacks do. >Kill people and destroy lives.

Show this to the world
BTW you don’t need a red to do this, just a camera and a vision/cause

I have canon K35 and it is 1.3, no I guess can not film, now sun came up, but planes have left, unfortunately :*) it is getting ridiculous, everybody on Georgian forums are joking and everything. I wish you knew georgian to read it.

Iso did not help, I went all the way to 2000. I guess shutter had to be lowered.

Sorry, I don't get into political comments about who started what, who is right or wrong, etc.

But seriously, if you want to bring home to people your point that the Russians are pushing beyond South Ossetia and are now attacking your city, film it put your clip on YouTube.

Lower shutter speed, push up the ISO and shoot. Recording sound is probably more important.

Sorry that Red hasn't fixed the phantom power noise problem yet.

But if I were you I'd just want to make sure my friends and loved ones were safe.

Hope everything calms down soon over there soon for everyone.

Levan, I simpatice you, if I was having bombs over my head I would also shoot everything I could, not for the sake of footage, but for the sake of sanity...

"...hey but really, how can I film a dark night sky?"

I'm not clear on whether the question is hypothetical or practical. In any case, I doubt the Red camera would be able to see an airplane against a dark night sky. There might be a better chance if you had a high-gain image intensifier in front of the sensor (do those come in PL mount?) Most of the footage the American networks showed of the night raids on Baghdad used infrared cameras and/or image intensifiers. In truth I think a cheap consumer DV camera with the "nightshot" feature would work better in this case.

needless to say if you have bombs dropping and explosions, that would not need image intensifiers.

so it is night now, my City is being bombed by Russians, I want to film it with RED, but picture is dark, how can I film it? should I lower shutter speed?

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=17429 is the full story. :*)

hey but really, how can I film a dark night sky? red sees nothing.

Set the shutter speed to 360 degrees - it will give you 1 more stop. Open the Iris, and shoot as slow frame rate as possible: 24fps or even slower. I would even try to shoot time lapse at 1fps with 360 degree shutter. With T1.3 lens you should be able to film in less than candle light without bumping gain (ISO) too much.

Be careful, man. There is no point getting a good shot and end your life before you can watch it. But, I can understand why you would like to bring the images to the public.

Good luck!

Stay alive, man. Stay alive.

Keep giving us updates when you can. Hope you and your family make it through safely.

It turned now 12th of august in Georgia, and it is my 29th birthday. hope I will be at least 29 year and 1 day old. :*)
