Build 16 strange post production issues

We have some footage shot on Build 16 that is causing problems with our system. I have updated all the necessary bits and bobs from the Support page but still having no joy. The issues we are having are as below:

- in RedCine we can bring up the clips but if we scrub a little the program crashes

-in Red Alert i see no image, just black

-in FCP some of the proxies are visible before rendering but exhibit strange coloured glitches as if some kind of colorama/poster effect was applied. I cannot play the proxie without rendering even though i am running a dual quad core 2.8ghz with 16gb ram.

-in FCP once rendered the clips either show as just a solid blue, solid green or flick between both blue and green

-if i use Log and Transfer to bring the clips into FCP they appear as just solid blue, solid green or flick between the two like as if i have rendered the proxies.

-in QT if we open up a proxy it plays for a moment before it seems to get stuck in a loop between two frames and judders repeatedly. if we stop it and press play again, the judders continue but this time flashes of green appear in between the loops of the two frames. if we stop it again and play it the screen is just solid green. After this has happened to a clip, any further proxies i open in QT will be just green. If i close QT and then open another proxy it plays properly for a moment before starting the whole juddering loop issue again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as we are meant to be getting this video through post asap!

Deanan, Chayse is using loaner camera #17 from RED while mine is in repair but he has all the latest RED drivers and software and is expeiencing a black screen with audio only during QT player playback and only black screens in Redalert and Redcine. He can playback and see the footage in-camera though...

He started production friday morning and did some tests thursday evening with all the latest software and his tests worked out fine when playing back on his computer.

he said he was using 4k, 2:1, rc36 to drive, and using redspace during his tests without problems...the only thing he changed was to to the Raw viewing mode in-camera on the first day from redspace. today he tried to switch back to redspace in-camera on the same drive but it was all black on the LCd and he couldn't see anything...so he had to switch it back to raw mode.

Any ideas to solve this ASAP would be greatly appreciated.

Can you output a CSV of the file's metadata for us from REDrushes?

I'd also suggest restting the camera settings in the camera.

Thanks for getting back to me.

We are running Leopard, FCP 6.0.4, QT 7.5. Have installed all the most recent updates of the codecs/Red software. Used AppDelete to remove RedCine and RedAlert before installing the new ones.

is that everything you need?

i am having the same issues only worse. the footage plays back nice on the camera. it will not import into redcine, and all the proxies are green during playback, i can hear the sound though

We hav faced the same scenario when we used the cf cards. Clips when previewed on the cam would show glitches and sometimes Playback Codec_fault error, so we tried playing it in the comp and we faced the same problem as Keith Lynch, shashbugu.

We shot again with Red Drive (a borrowed one, as ours hav not yet landed here) and everything was just great. Think this is a cf module problem.
Other then the CF module, the camera rocks!

It works after I downloaded qt 3.1 redcodec. It still does not import into redcine though will upgrade once I get of the field

We had the same problem!

We had two cameras, CFs and Drives. All the footage captured during the 3 day shoot came up with a black screen in QT, Redcine, Redalert, FCP.

The only way I could view the files was to set metadata settings to default in RED alert or pick setting in preferences in FCP.

Both the cameras (build 20) and the computers with the appropriate updates have worked fine on shoots previously.

I'd love to get some insight into how to fix this bug! The DP and director get cagey when they can't see footage!!

As I've posted before:

First, reset the camera's LOOK values - this clears the bug that is setting the proxies to exposure 0.

Then, to fix your already shot footage, set a default look in REDalert, then use Redrushes to recreate all the proxies (Look Source RSX, RSX Source Selected RSX, then QT Wrappers -> Destination Folder -> Source R3D, then Make All Wrappers).
