Dear Forum, (and RED engineers reading these blogs)

I have tried to use the 5-Pin audio out on the RED One (TA5F connector) with my "10-pin" style audio snakes. I use these all the time with cameras like the Panasonic HDX-900, Varicam, and Sony F900. My cables have two XLR outs and one 5-Pin balanced XLR return (STEREO) which is compatible with all the video cameras mentioned above. I have two 5-Pin TA5M to XLR5M cables made with all pins connected one to one, two to two, three to three, four to four, five to five.... so that I can use them with the RED One.

Every time I've used the RED One I only get right channel on the return, and nothing in the left channel. SO I have to use the headphone jack......

The standard wiring for balanced 5-Pin stereo audio should be: Pin 1 Ground, Pin 2 Left Hot(+), Pin 3 Left Cold(-), Pin 4 Right Hot (+), and Pin 5 Right Cold (-).

What's going on with the RED audio out?

That's all I need to do? Please confirm:

Pin 1 is Audio Left +
Pin 2 is Ground
Pin 3 is Audio Left -
Pin 4 is Audio Right +
Pin 5 is Audio Right -

If the above is correct, why didn't you follow the 5-Pin balanced stereo audio standard? I just want to get my stuff wired so I can start taking advantage of the 5-Pin balanced audio out.

William-
I just took a look at the RED manual for you (download at red.com/support) and it appears you are correct about the pin out. The manual does not state what pin 2 is, but it must be ground. The rest of the pin out is as you stated.

BTW, I know a few others (including myself) who would like to have this cable as well. Maybe we can organize a group buy? Let us know...

Greetings! Found you after a quick google search.

Just wondering, how come the 5 pin with your cameras is different from those of Sony, Panasonic, Grass Valley and Ikigami?
