  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Really, an iMac? Come on!?

Haha! ronx, you're a total freak! You must work as a widget within a hierarchy that can't be explained at this moment. Wait for further instructions. :>)

Of course I mean this in the best possible way, as I feel we're rocking the same boat.....

I`ve got my iMac now, and..

!!!!! WOW !!!!!!

I haven`t done a comprehensive test, or timed anything accurately yet, but I tried outputting 16:9 4k "High quality" footage (NOT 2K->4K either), with colour corrections, from the internal drive and then back out to it, as 16bit TIFFS and... WOOOWWeee... seriously, I`ll export a larger set of clips tomorrow to make sure some cache I don`t know about isn`t speeding things up (although I did render out about 3000 frames), but Redcine was knocking frames out in a few seconds, which is a big improvement to 75sec etc, that I was getting on my Vista Laptop. I may need to adjust my opinion of disk speeds being less important than CPU speeds.. I thought Mac Pro `s were taking about 10sec for export at best, but I`ve been getting much faster export than this, more like 3sec, and no, that doesn`t make sense to me either. I definately had everything set to High Quality, even the preview window.. more details tomorrow. I`m VERY HAPPY!!!

key specs:
ATI HD 2600 256mb
3.06ghz CPU core 2 duo
4gig Ram
500gig 7200rpm drive

Great man! I knew it could do it as the specs of a new iMac beat the best laptop. Enjoy and don't look back! ;>)

I've done it and had no problems. I haven't edited a ton with it but what i did worked great.
