I am having one huge problems trying to get red footage to work in my Mac Pro. FCP crashes continuously.

I am left with this error message:
"The application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the REDCODE.QT plug-in."

Has anyone run in to this problem???

FWIW, it's a new 8 core Mac Pro with 12 gb ram. It seems to crash regardless of the sequence or playback settings.

Thanks for your help

Are we talking build 15 or 16 here? Build 15 doesn't support 4K in QT, build 16 does it fine, even on my MBP – which is not really up to the task apart from showing me a single frame…

I too am having the same problem. I re-installed the old RED QT codec to get my system up and running again but now I can't import the QT proxies to FCP anymore using Build16 footage.

having same problem. once we updated to the new QT, in order to use our footage from build 16, FCP crash started happening.

It was working fine yesterday and FCP 6.0.4 just started crashing today at launch. I didn't update anything. Weird! I have QT 7.5 and the latest REDCODE. Should I switch to QT 7.4? I need to get this working for Opencut 2.0, deadline in 2 or 3 weeks... Does anyone know of a good config to use?

hi - this is proabaly not going to do anything and i may be giving wrong advice but i had the same issue with QT in AE using COLOR FINESSE 2.

found some links prompting me to run QT in safe mode - fixed problem

Well, I got it working again by opening an old FCP 5.x project and saying No when asked to update it, so the old project closes and FCP remains running without the crash, so I can create the new project and import the footage... Now I am logging and clipping the RED footage all over again. Luckily, I hadn't logged more than 6 takes before the crashing started.

Same problem here, FCP 6.04 QT 7.5. Did a system roll back and re-installed redcode 3.0. Problem is still there, but I can use my build 15 ref clips again.
But TAKE CARE. We have an other problem right now. Playing the sequence (build with _M refs) we encounter several severe codec errors. Audio (wich came apart on DVD) has several digital disturbs and other problems and became useless. It also seems that FCP has demolished the R3D files!
When we open the R3D in redalert and check the material at the same timecode, the codec errors are the same in the R3D, so the 3RD file doesn't work anymore! When we overwrite the backup R3D file, the material is working again. So Never forget to backup your RAW DATA! Our solution for mixing build 15 and 16 is to use two systems, one is on build 16 codec redcode3.1, the other is build 15 codec3.0. We edit on the 3.0 system, and use the build 16 system to transfer the material to prores. Then we combine material in the build 15 system. Workaround is ok for us. My advice, never change build during projects...

I had the same problem with FCP crashing. (FCP 6.0.4, QT 7.5 & RECODE.QT 3.1.0, Build 16 v3.2.5)

I got it to work following these steps.

1. Create a project.
2. Imported a _S proxy.
3. Add the proxy to the time line.
4. When prompted to match it to the clip, I said yes.
5. Change the clip setting to REDCODE and quality to 50%.
6. Drop the clip into the time line.
7. RT from Unlimited to Safe, select "Use Playback Settings".
8. Play the clip.
9. The render bar changes from RED to ORANGE.

That worked for me. The strange thing is, when I returned the settings to their original values, it still works - with all clip sizes.

It's so weird, I hesitate to post it, but if it helps anyone - that's great.

Hi!!! I have also the same problem, Have anybody know how this problem start it? and if anybody found away around!!! please send a email.. robertduarte@cox.net

Having the same problem. I've been away. I got back, updated all of my red software, started editing with proxies, then FCP quite, got the "redcode.qt" error message, now all of my proxies playback green, and even redrushes keeps crashing my system. If redrushes is running, the whole system just freezes and the power button is my only option.

Everything worked so well for me before August, now that I'm back, nothing is working! HELP!

Hi, I'm having the same problem too. Cannot view any of my footage on my iMac. What gives? The weird thing is that with the same plug-ins and softwares, everything is mint on my MBP.

I'm also getting this problem.

I'm working on another RED project without a problem.
Yet I open this one and hell breaks loose.

I also am getting crashes from FCP in L&T. Sometimes footage comes in all green and then crashes my mac pro in a big way or FCP 7 crashes out of L&T after a fresh re boot and the only thing running is FCP 7. Just re installed the redcode plug in ver 4.4

Seems like this has been happening for a long time. Has anyone found what the cause is?

I know this isn't the best thing to hear, but I had the same issue and it ended up being corrupt R3Ds.
Luckily there were backups of the R3Ds.
