can anyone recommend a nice quality, inexpensive light meter I could use with my RED?

I don't know your definition of cheap, but a very good one is the Sekonic Cine series (around 660 USD), that has both a spot- and reflected meter reading. http://www.sekonic.com/products/Sekonic%20L-758Cine%20DIGITALMASTER.asp

Other than that - one of the great features of the Red is that you a) see the results on a good monitor b) have the histogramm right in the camera. (The old saying was: A DP's tool for film was the light meter, for video it was the vectorscope.)

I like the Sekonic L-358. It does frame rates and is small and light. I've never been fond of built in spot meters. I prefer the old standby Minolta spot-F. You can find them on e-bay for $200-$300. Together they're cheaper than the L-758 Cine.

I know it's kinda lame of me to pimp my wares here, but I have a brand new Sekonic L-358 light meter still in the original box that I'm not using. ...If anyone's interested.

I bought it when another L-358 went missing, but it was found about the time FedEx delivered the new one. I just kept the new one as a spare and never opened it. I'm using an L-758Cine now.

Damn!! I wish I had asked that question! :shifty:
