Help!How to Sync 2 Red one?

Hello everyone! I am preparing for a 3D short film and want to use 2 RED one.I have the experience of 3D shooting using 2 sony F900R , and know how to synchronize the two video cameras and let them start to record at the same time. But this will be the first time I use Red One, I asked rental house guys how to do but they don't have any experience for that.SO,I come here for help.
I noticed that Red one has "GENLOCK" port,is it for Sync? Should I connect the "master" Red‘s "PREVIEW" port to "slave" Red's "GENLOCK" port? Is that enought or I have to do someting else? What additional advice? Thanks a lot!!

An 'analog' workaround could be to sync footage from both cams using a clapper...

However, there must be a way to do a hardware sync, but I am not a RED owner.

Yes there is hardware way to do it , but better to sync Time Code on 2 cameras , and then it will be very easy to sync cameras. Just get time code cable and some freerun time code device. And you will get same time code on 2 cameras.

can you explain in more detail how to accomplish this? are there any settings that need to be set in the camera menus? where do you plug the timecode cable into? dumb questions, i know, but i would love to hear.

The short answer is to utilize 2 "Lockit Boxes" (either a Ambient 2020CL or a Deneke SBT - they rent for about $40/day per unit) Genlock both cameras, and to force feed them both the same time code. Sync both Lockits to your sound dept.'s master clock. In the menus select Jam Sync, and Genlock on both cameras, connect each camera to the respective cables and ports. Genlock uses a BNC connector (use the ET breakout box!) and time code uses the 5 pin lemo input. In a jam you can use a single lockit box with BNC T connectors to split off the same signal to two separate cameras.
The dip switches on the lockit boxes can be a little tricky, but set them to 23.98 and make sure your project timebase is the same.

Also I have had a custom GPI trigger to run both cameras with a single button push. Utilize the record loop function in build 16 to overcome any slight triggering discrepancies. (Have consistently found that Reds don't completely trigger at the same time... sometimes up to 12 frames off, but hey your Lockit's have you covered with timecode so don't sweat it.

Good luck! Choose your lenses VERY carefully- use primes, project them and make sure they are as close to a matched pair as possible in terms of actual focal length, framing etc. You can chase that devil around in post for a long time. But that is another topic.....
