  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Alpha R3D SDK for dummies please?

No disrespect intended here -

But if you need SDK for dummies, you probably don't need to sign up for the SDK. FYI - SDK = Software Developer Kit. If you aren't a programmer, you won't find SDK for dummies helpful anyway.

:poster_stupid:

What Shawn said...

But if you have more specific questions, then fire away. However I doubt you'll get any answers until the SDK is released and people have a chance to look over it.

Does it mean should I be programmer for finding SDK dummies helpful?

And about Alpha R3D?

I'd like to know what do both Alpha R3D SDK mean?

Seems to me this forum is more designed for programmers. I thought it would be for filmmakers after all.

"beta" means software that is not quite ready to be released - but has most of the planned features present.

As a "beta tester", you should be aware that "beta" programs usually still have some bugs and instability issues. This is what the "beta testing cycle" is for - testing the software and reporting back to the developer your findings so that the programmers can fix the code - and the product can be prepared for commercial release.

"alpha" means "pre-beta" - more buggy than "beta" code, probably doesn't have all the features of the final product. This early version of software is typically kept "internal" to the company - and is not usually shared with end users of beta testers.

SDK = software devlopment kit = for programmers. If you're not already a programmer, forget it. There's no such thing as "SDK for dummies".

This is a reference document that basically describes how to "hooks" into a piece of existing technology. It's made for other soft6ware developers (programmers) to use to learn how to how to write their own code that will enhance or "hook" into the application or technology in question.

As a RED fan or user, you should keep an eye on these "SDK" developments and understand the implications - but don't spend alot of time trying to understand the details...

As far as "beta" technology - you should know the risks before you use it on a paying gig or load it up on any production equipment for use on a "real" job.

I think what Shawn and Jeff means is that an SDK is for people with programming skills. If you are new to programming it is not the easiest stuff to work with. Start with this: http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummiesTitle/C-For-Dummies-5th-Edition.productCd-0764568523.html

Alpha R3D SDK means an alpha release (before beta) of a software development kit for R3D tools and applications. Its what programmers get from RED to help program stuff that access and interact with the R3D-files.

Hope this makes sense.

PS. I am NOT a programmer. Wouldn't really recommend it either ;)

EDIT: OK, that post from Boxxlabs wasn't there when I started typing this...
