  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

what ever happened to the Donan Follow Focus?

I have emailed these guys many times with no response. I have look through out the web for other contact info, nothing. This looked like a quality product at a reasonable price in a market with very few real options. But do they really exist? why no update on there site?

If any one has any info on these guys one way or the other it would be cool.

Haven't heard a peep either. Obviously a nice rendered scam that has
stolen ideas all over it from willytec.

Who's next on the list for awesome FF?

I've discussed the new Arri mattebox & followfocus many times here. As soon as the gear arrives we'll debut it to you, including some "secret" extras no one knows about out there.

Look, I can get all Jarred-style too. Maybe I'll take pictures of the stuff in silhouette.

Is this new follow focus going to be readily available this week Mitch?

I'm really eager to get a follow focus sorted out to help complete my Red kit and this one has got me holding out. However, if it's going to be a while before I'll actually get it in my hands I might just bite the bullet and go for the FF4.
 
When I know, you'll know.

I know how agonizing missed release and delivery dates can be to the members of this forum. I can say that this gear is imminent, but I wouldn't want to promise something we could not deliver. For all I know the truck with them might crash or a boat sink or a container held up in customs. When it arrives at Abel's doors then we can truly say we have it.

And that should be very, very soon... ;-)

Cool! I've asked this before but got no answer - is there some way of reversing it so that it can focus the right way on Nikons? Idler gear?

This was one of the nice features about the Donan one...

My understanding is the new follow focus is geared up the throat instead of using pulleys. I remember seeing a demo unit a while ago and the circular handle had an inner handle so you had instantly two speeds for racking focus.

As I've said before elsewhere, Ive also seen the MB-29 which is the MB-19 but modular. Again, a demo unit so not sure if either of these are what's being speculated on.

I wouldnt' be surprised if an MB-24 pops its head up at somepoint (again, MB-14 but with MB20 style modularity)

That's the MB-28, not 24. We have one of the prototypes and it's a terrific mattebox. Barely bigger than the MB-20 yet fits right onto the front of the Optimo 24-290.
