Does anyone else have a problem with the wingnuts on the red handles? For us, when we try to tighten the wingnut down so the handle is mounted on a rod, the tip of the wingnut hits a point on the handle, causing it to stop and not tighten on the rod. We have this with two different handles.

Why would Red send out these wingnuts with the handles if they don't crank down??

If you have this or don't have this problem please let me know.

Thanks.

The red wingnuts act like a torque wrench/ratchet.
The plastic head is spring mounted, it can be pulled out towards you, and rotated freely before lowering it back onto the threads to continue tightening.

There really should be something in the manual about that, it's a common question/confusion.

The wing nuts are spring mounted, They will pull out enough to clear the handle. I find it a bit frustrating too but, in the end, they work fine.

Edit: Ed and Stephen beat me to it.

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Wow, that makes sense and helps! thanks!

Make sure the screwjacks are on the thin side of the split. If they are on the thick side they don't squeeze the gap. As soon as I switched mine, I had a tight grip.

BTW, just put on a new handle bar/universal mount and second handle and it is so much more comfortable and stable.
