New version of Redcine with TARGA - am I missing something here?

The last version of Redcine I had (I forget the version number), there was an option in Output to export a Quicktime TARGA sequence. In the new version of Redcine (3.1.2), this option no longer exists under the available Quicktime exports. It will only let me output individual TARGA (.tga) files.

Does anyone know if RED has removed this feature entirely? I suppose I could go back to the previous version of Redcine, but it's much SLOWER.

Thanks in advance.

Nice. :sarcasm:

I figured that was the case. Thanks for the heads up.

I don't suppose you know of an alternative way to do this? I'm trying to get some TARGA sequences exported so my FX guy can finally get started.

Have you tried a TIFF sequence? If that's not possible, export the highest rez sequence you can get from FCS? (When I was in VFX, we worked with TIFF seq's only.)

Not sure of this - but what about a DPX sequence?

Those are ideas but I toyed around and it seems that it's the same case with TIFF and DPX as well (just a mess of individual images for output). Unless of course, the VFX software will assume that the images are part of one sequence anyway.

Please forgive me if I sound ignorant here because VFX is really beyond my grasp. All I was told by the VFX guy in LA was that he needed TARGA sequences of every clip that needs work. I would only assume that TIFF and DPX would suit him just as well.

Thanks for your quick responses. My frustration is starting to wear off slowly. :)

There are very few tools that would read TGA sequences that would not read TIFF or DPX sequences.

If you can't create ANY sequence from RC/RA, then I would suggest creating uncompressed 10 bit Quicktimes from one of them and then exporting the "file of your choice" sequence from Final Cut (or whichever NLE you're using).

Are you using Build 16 footage? If not, you could always reinstall an older version of RC.

Redcine can create 8bits Targa images sequence no problem. I think what you want is Quicktime wrapped Targa sequences right?

Not sure of this - but what about a DPX sequence?

That would not be a self contain QT file like he wants.

Hopefully we can do QT wrapped self contain of other formats as well and soon.

Version Beta 1.0 can, but the newer versions don't have the option. The only Targa output available is outputting a set of individual, non-QT wrapped images.

The solution ended up being to downgrading to Beta 1.0 to do this. Everything seems to be well now.

Thanks for all the help, guys!
