Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
A lot of things determine the length, What drives you use, what interfaces...
FW800 to e-sata or SATA Internal Non-Operating System Drive. 32 GB or 11% takes about 10 minutes. It then takes 5 minutes to go to another e-sata drive, and another 5 minutes to the third drive. Your transfer times will increase exponentially if you are only using Firewire Drives,
Here is a page describing the Onset procedure. Still under construction though,
Here is some advice... RE-Load the camera after about 12-15%, if you drop that Red Drive with 2 hours of footage on it your in a bad position. But also a DAM's position is to double check Frames, TC, and File Sizes. It is better to reload and find out Camera's mistakes before the company makes a move or turns around.
Just because it can hold 2 hours doesnt mean its a good idea.
We've been shooting a 3 cam series, and all in all had a pretty flawless DIT situation (other than a few human errors) we were shooting both cards & drives, offloading the drives every 30 gigs worth (50 in one or two extreme situations). And doing our own lab work. So not only does smaller shooting enable faster turn-around on set, but also much better times and efficiency when checking reels thru redcine!
