  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon 8-64 PL Zoom

I have a 2nd generation canon 8 - 64 that i am selling if anyone is interested, i have owned both versions black 1st generation and now the grey 2nd gen, the 2nd gen has improved coatings and some mechanical improvements that eliminated all and any type of breathing, it is an awesome S16 lens, pm me for details.

Thank you Bob... just sent a pm.

I have a Canon 7-63 (which I believe is the newer version of the 8-64) for my Aaton and I love it, but I have not spent the money to convert it to PL mount because my Red 2K results have been disappointing when compared to HD (I've done side by sides with EX1 and HDX900). I had high hopes for 2K for doc work but I cannot in good conscious sell it to a producer over those HD cameras. (Yes, I totally love my Red at 4K.)

I've got a 7-63 as well. They are nice Super-16 zooms for sure. The other thing to be careful about is bright backgrounds. The same milky issue appears here too. Much worse flare factor than Zeiss or Cooke.
But overall, nice, sharp, and compact.

Hi,

The original 7-63 does not cover S16, they are a bargain.

Stephen

Stephen, I think you're thinking of the old 7-56. That lens was indeed a bargain. It was later reworked into the 8-64, and it used to be possible to get the 7-56 converted to an 8-64.

In fact I know of one optical facility that used to do it that of late has been busy working with 18-50 lenses...

Hi Mitch,

Your right the 7-56, I assume that will cover 2K?

I guess there is more money to be made converting 1000+ Sigma zooms.

Hi Mitch,

Looks like a lens for filmaker's gang, I guess they sell for about $1500 & are quite sharp IIRC.

Hi,

They come up on Ebay & are largely ignored as they only cover standard 16 & probably wont have a PL mount.

Stephen

never the less.. we're still looking for that cooke 3x 20-60 bargain of the year..

last time i've heard someone had one for sale.. twice stephen's ebay price or so..
that is.. maybe more than that.. but.. last but not least.. scratch on it.

Hi,

The 20-60 is a 35mm lens, all the prices have tripled. Standard 16 lenses have not.

True. Good point vs. filmmaker's gang invectives. Nasty gang, actually. :-)
