Hi, anyone done any commercial shoot for Food and Beverage with Red. Potential client wants a reference. Thanks

Yes, but the spots are not released yet. I also shot high res stills side by side with my Nikon D200 and a 28-70 2.8.
Let's say that RED would be a perfect choice for moving food shots. The client loved the playback abilities and we
could do a quick grade to see how the images were holding up. And we were constrained by having to shoot in a
live restaurant with a limited ability to light and move around. Now it looks like we have a green light to get into
a studio and shoot some more!

I've shot some food; how can I help?

Best regards,

Leo

I'd show you some stills but I'm not allowed to. Let's just say the grabs looks GREAT!

Yes, Justin shot for me on the spots I alluded to.
Soon, Justin we can release something when the man gives
the green light. Plus today I found out we may be shooting
some more so I will give you a call when that goes down.
But having a 4K file you can manipulate in After Effects is awesome!

After Effects is my favorite program. Color grading, compositing, motion graphics...this will be GREAT, now I won't have to transcode R3D files when including them in motion graphics, they'll pop up and won't have gamma issues (hopefully).

Just keep me updated Mike. Shooting in a studio would be fun and we won't have those people walking through our space anymore, lol.

Yes,

Food Packshot. Not very thrilling shooting... We made a comp with some "smoke" (back light boiling whater piercing through black cloth on a black screen...) to show some heat...

Sorry I can't show some picts it is still in the agency (Saatchi & Saatchi).

You would not want to eat most food used in a commercial food shoot.
It is usually blowtorched and covered in Pine-Sol. Using brushes dipped in glycerin makes tomatoes look great!

This commercial was for an entertainment district, not a food spot per se, so there was no food stylist; the restaurants are very high end and their plate presentations approach those of food stylists.

Really the chef's themselves are food stylists, but without using the tricks and techniques that render the food inedible.

I like to light food with hard sources directed through a collection of glass bottles; the range of light/dark and prismatic break up really makes food pop.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Funny you should say KFC. I just happened to be at some stages that were doing a RED KFC job a month or so ago.

We did a side by side comparison of RED and 35mm for a KFC spot. I'll have to check with the producers if it is cool to release them.

Cheers

Off topic but for food 'steaming' we sometimes burn mosquito coils. Anyone else have any other tricks they use to show steaming food?
