  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Do you have any spare Red footage?

Hi everyone! First post here. I've been reading around the boards and elsewhere, but there are a few questions I can't quite seem to find answers to. Just a bit about me, I've never worked with Red cam footage, but I have quite a bit of experience with P2 workflows. See, I'm assisting an editor whose next project he's bringing me on for was shot with the Red, and he's fairly new to it himself. I'd like to have an idea of what we'll encounter so I can help make this go smoothly.

I have a ton of questions about the Red workflow, but to keep this from becoming an insanely long post, I'll just ask straight out if anyone has a clip or two straight from a Red cam--some test footage they shot or something--that I might be able to play around with to try this out firsthand? The editor is understandably keeping the hard drives with the footage in his possession for now. This means I don't have a way of really getting my hands dirty right now, but I'd very much like to before we begin.

Thank you!

(edit: I probably should have specified that I am working on Final Cut, and perhaps should have posted in the Apple workflow forum. My mistake)

Thanks Steve! This is exactly what I was looking for.

I have a similar request... I'm about to edit a feature film and I would like to know if the reference files are standalone QT's or if they need the r3d file to work...? I seem to remember downloading a demo that had the kind of name they usually do and I would like to download one of those to see if the workflow on location would go smoother with them...

I'm working with PC and Avid, that's why I'm wondering, because my idea was to let the cameracrew unload the CF cards and then I get a small SD resolution clip that I can edit fast on set. Isn't the camera generating small stand alone files?

If so, is the timecode "in" these so that if necessary, we can use the on location cut and do a rough 4K online if we want?
