Build 16 V3.2.4 has been out for four, five days now and we have only heard about a couple of small issues. Is the newest build this solid? Or are you guys actually testing it?

Please chime in even if you come across virtually no problems with this build to let us know your pleasant experience.

I am dying to install Build 16.
Thanks.

I turned mine on and the camera exploded with such force that the entire building I was in collasped killing thousands. I am, in fact, writing this from Heaven. Maybe it's heaven... I dunno, it is awfully warm in here!

Yes.. I am kidding... I'm on 15.

sorry.

Hi Jay,

I know you're a "belt and suspenders" kind of guy, but build 16 is solid. I've tortured it unspeakably without a hint of failure (now that the codec error is smashed) and the picture improvements are considerable.

I've not loaded 3.2.4 as yet; have no need because previous build is so spectacular.

Once you load up 16, you'll never want to go back and probably wish you had done it earlier.

Good shooting!

Ditto. Leo has nailed it with this post. I did go to .4 and it is just as reliable with the bonus of TC out the Lemo.

Still on 3.2.1 - we shot all day with 2 cameras last week and NOT A SINGLE PROBLEM. High light, low light, action shots all 4K 16:9 23.98, and lots of 2K 100fps.

Did two days very similar to this over the weekend with 3.2.4 and had the same experience.

Another good report from someone who just upgraded to build 16 3.2.4 from using 15 2.2.5 (with the 2.2.8 upgrade between). I upgraded the whole lot, computers, camera, quicktime, apps with the latest beta goods and then put it through a 14-hour wringer and it came up sparkling ... 23.98 fps, Redcode 36 16:9. Good for the sanity of the producer and rest of the crew who had been on three other red jobs that all had major problems resulting in camera swaps.

And as a power conservation method (thanks to the new early preview feature) I was booting up and down all day between setups and didn't experience the occasional hang that I would on build 15.

We were shooting tungsten balanced with tungsten lighting and something colors were awry I felt (a red light displaying as magenta ... sodium vapor gels being way too green). But when I switched the camera to daylight balance, they dropped back to normal. So there's going to be some color issue in post, but there always are, and I felt this was camera, not build related.

And it's nice not to have to do the 2:1 dance on footage in post. I'll have to delve into the semi-whip pans and see if there is any funkiness to report. But I'm also a week out on shooting a feature and a bit hunkered down on getting that in shape. I thought this short would be the perfect work up for this build to make sure it was good to go. So far so good.

Build 16 is solid...have used it on multiple cameras long record times, high and low contrast scenes 9+ hours of 4K 16:9 that pushed the codec hard on a recent project. No Problems.

Once you load it you will wish you had earlier.
It is very much a whole new camera with 16 even if it's still called beta.

10 straight days of shooting on paid gigs and Build 16 came out a winner. One codec error the whole time and I believe that was possibly caused by operator hitting record button twice quickly and causing the system to trip up. We also experienced the boot up issue one morning, but solved it with a reboot and was never an issue again.

I think this Build has been far more stable for me than Build 15 release build and I think the image quality is better. If the Beta label were taken off of it, I don't think people would look back. Hopefully they are getting close to doing that so those who are holding back will make the leap.

If Leo's Crazy Codec Error Tree can't make it hiccup then nothing will.

Been very happy with B16 so far. Haven't upgraded to the latest yet but will do so on the weekend - anybody out there still on B15 should definitely upgrade. Yes it's a Beta build so I understand the hesitation but it seems like the consensus out there among owners is that it is as stable or more stable than the release B15.

Leo - have RED offered you money for your tree yet. I can just imagine it sitting on their test bench at REDHQ - "Has the tree killed the Codec yet?? No. OK, time to release it to the masses!!"

We were in serious negotiations with Red for the sale of the codec-test tree when we discovered a huge gathering around the tree. It seems that there was a clearly visible figure in the bark; most of the crowd declared it was the virgin Mary, but many also said it favored Mohammed.

I personally spoke with a couple of saffron-robed gentlemen who insisted that the figure was undoubtedly the Dalli Lama. I did not personally meet with those who favored Moses, but I'm told they were in attendance.

We have withdrawn our offer to sell the tree and will be charging a nominal fee for viewing; posing with the tree will command a higher price. I expect a greater profit from the tree than the Red camera itself.

Seriously, we are no longer able to break build 16; I'll never go back. Furthermore, I'm not so sure my heart could take the excitement future builds may inspire.

Good shooting and best regards to all,

Leo

I completely trust you Leo.. You and your "Tree of death" really put 16 through it's paces.. Sadly my issue is post.. I cannot move to 16 until the SDK comes out.

Believe me, I am DYING to move to 16

Jay, are you having post for B15? Lim

Thank you all for your feedback. Now that Build 16 is officially released, I'll upgrade it first thing in the morning.

Thanks for your time and the community spirit, again.

Nope ... I got a Codec Fault yesterday for no reason....All the DP did was push the record button.

I think its 98% stable....Our preston remote start/stop caused the camera to go into Timelapse - 1 frame burst mode. I re-boot.
