HI
Please advice me if JVC DT-V17L2DU will work fine with RED camera on filed.
This is 17 inch version with not full 1080p resolution, but i have read that it has superior 1080 1:1 scaling .
everyone has expierience with that one? If not this , what monitor do u recomend for filed moitoring?

Best regards
MARTIN

Really, the main two options for 17" field monitors are the Panasonic and JVC. I have the JVC and love it. It was quite a bit cheaper than the panasonic a few months back, but I know Panasonic is now doing a $500 rebate. Haven't tried playing back 1080P footage yet from the RED since the monitor is native 720P. I will fire up my camera later and check to see if there is an quality difference between them.

I'm having trouble monitoring too. I expect it's my lack of video gear as opposed to the equipment itself.

I have a JVC TM-H150CG. I've tried all of the ports on the camera (I have the ET break out box) directly into the monitor and .....no luck. Are there internal camera settings I must do? I know the monitor works, power is on, yes I was in "Video In" on the A out put.

Please help. How do I get this to work.

Regards,
Danny

Video In refers to a composite standard def. signal. You need HD-SDI in.

Thanks Mitch,

So I either need a downconverter or a different monitor right? Or is there something else I can try?

No, that's it. Square peg into round hole.

The 24" and 17" versions are also different in that the 24" has better contrast and viewing angle.
The 24" should be 1000:1, the 17" 600:1. (If you convert that into stops, it's almost 1 stop in difference. So not a huge difference, but noticeable.)

I can't tell you which would be better as a field monitor.

That... doesn't make sense?

Well, the 17" JVC accepts 1080P and scales it down beautfully--in fact it does look SLIGHTLY better than native 720P because the panel is higher rez than 720P. Therefore when you are playing 720P footage on the panel, it's actually uprezzing it slightly (you can see what native 720P looks like by hitting the 1:1 button) The nice part also about 1080P is that you can hit the 1:1 button and check your focus at 1:1 1080P!
