  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

More Stolen Gear!

I do not believe that the criminals are working in Brazil. They are working in NY and then selling the gear through foreign vendors. Your danger level in Brazil has little to do with this crime wave.
 
It's not new, but it is far more active as of late.
 
And they are very savvy about what they are taking.

I am personally going to begin taking extreme measures to ensure the safety of my person and my gear which will be escorted at all times and locked under guard.
I will refuse rentals to anyone not willing to comply with my requirements. If I lose $150,000 of business this year because of these requirements, so be it.
I suggest all rental houses set the bar high here and follow this strategy too.
I'm through f-ing around.

Got my lenses, all my red cards(4) my brand new red drive, and all my personal stuff from the car. Thank GOD StateFarm insurance is being really nice and fixing all car damage...still missing lenses..

I was 3 feet from my car loading it up! I even had the chance and took it to jump on the car door and was drug across my parking lot!

are people INSANE!!! 3 feet! my back was turned!

I don't have an eBay account, but you can ask the guy what the serial # is for the body if you do have an account.

You might get a fishy story, but if he says a #, and someone else has that #, he is lying. If he doesn't know, he is not a red one owner, as anyone who buys one is interested in the serial #.
 
I asked for the serial number on June 5th. I have not received a response.
 
..and 0 feedback as a seller? Did someone report this to ebay/police?

Also fishy that the "reserve is not met" - this sounds like whoever wins the bid, will be contacted off ebay and made a "better" offer after the auction has ended with no one meeting that sky-high reserve
 
I asked for the serial number and no reply. I reported to ebay but got auotreply BS.

I think anyone who has has had a camera stolen should pay attention to this auction.

It can be bad anywhere. Some guys target the portabrace bag since they know thats what most guys carry a camera in.

I know one unlucky soul flying out for a job and he had the camera right next to him turned to pay the cab driver and it was gone.
 
Just thought I'd bump the thread and let everyone know it all turned out OK. I got a new HDX-900, new Pro-35, new O'Connor 2575 etc. Thanks to Abel for making it happen quickly, and the folks at ZGC for getting me a Pro-35 virtually the day after.
I found a nice 18-100 from Clairmont in lieu of the 20-100, and a 10mm T.2 Zeiss for the 12mm, and a 14mm, again form Clairmont.
I have been MUCH more careful, since this incident, about making sure the gear is stored properly overnight. Also, for you renters out there, when you get an insurance certificate, call the broker and make sure there are no exclusions. Some reinsurers are now writing exclusions into production policies that won't cover unattended vehicles. Luckily there were none on the production's policy in my case.

Good news. Had a few items stolen recently, not on your scale thankfully.

I just wonder if these people who steal this equipment realise, most of us work hard for our $. SCUM
 
Glad everything worked out for you Harry. Thanks for the heads up about the exclusions.

My check is finally in the mail from the insurance on the lens of mine that was stolen almost 2 months ago in Boston.
