  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hey,
Sorta new to working with Red. Just curious when working on a mac, specifically FCP, how I export back to the highest resolution?
I've imported the proxy (i think) of the levels of quicktime files out of the .r3d file. Is there anyway to match up the clips with their top quality counterparts?
Or is there a certain file type I should be exporting from FCP in? Reason being when I throw it on a DVD the resolution is all messed up????
Please advice,
thanks,

Can't you go back to REDcine and conform to 4K again, for free?

If you enter the in and out frame manually SMPTE, feet+frames, or frame number for each shot into my edit list it should match the edit from anything at 4K, and output a set of 4K frames. If you have done CC somewhere else any file type can be output as a set of numbered frames. I am working on 48bpp TIFF I/O now for my CC part. Freeish it is, but you need to tell me if you find a bug. Proxy frames may play best out of a solid state HD, but even at low res from a harddisk they let you check the sound mix sync and for mistakes in the entering of the edit list values, you can also make edit changes and preview the edited changes. It also does the sound mix with 256 tracks per shot+256 project length, multi channel mix down with compression and noise gates, like a warehouse full of magfilm machines. 4K+ uncompressed DI. Someone could maybe write a converter to convert some other editor's ins and outs list to my Edit list file type, I could help, maybe. In my system each shot is in its own "folder" on a drive for random access, so you would need to copy the frame files from REDCine (tm) numbering the slate frame 0 and so on for each shot into the shot's folder, it makes for many TB of files.

For making DVD you can use VirtualDUB (tm) to make an Uncompressed AVI from BMP 24bpp frames then use a good encoder like,

http://www.tmpgenc.net/en/index.html

http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/index.html

You should avoid double-encoding losses and go all uncompressed up to the DVD to get best results, you can read here some comments people made about avoiding double-encoding losses for compression,
