Included in the latest build. Fantastic news for on-set editing.
Can anyone advise how I can get from the 5-pin LEMO connector to the BNC connector on my AJA IOHD???

I understand Timecode out is Pin 5, ground is pin 1... is that all I need to know for a coax cable? Obviously I'll put this in the hands of a decent cable-maker, but any advice is appreciated.

If this is working right, are we best off using the Red as the master clock from now on, and syncing everything to it? Or should we still be using Clockit or Deneke boxes and having the audio guy be the master? Assuming your recording both second system and to the Red.

BTW Sound Devices makes a great cable that goes from Lemo to Timecode BNC in/out. Call Location Sound in CA.. They have it.

I tried Able, but they sent me there saying it would be cheaper.. Gotta love 'em!

I suppose it doesnt matter if you are doing single camera shows who is the master. However, on multicam shows, it s better to have sound be the master. You'll find its much easier to sync up this way.

some of you please break down if im using a single camera for production
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO SYNC MY SOUND
should i and can i
use the timecode out to a field recorder and which is best
and can i use a slate to start sound and camera
should i and which is best or easiest

thank you

i love it when i get several opinions please

First of all, I have the Trew cables on my Reds and they work fine.
I'll try to find time a little later this morning to write an explanation about the timecode signal uses, along with the need for Tri level sync etc.

Time Code Output

Time Code Output

When playing back a shot, is it the timecode from that shot that is sent out of the camera, or the current Time Of Day/ jammed code?

It should be the Time Code (not Edge Code) that was recorded with that clip.

Time Code is either the camera's Time of Day value or the the external timecode you fed to the camera when Jam Syncing

its definitly smaller and cheaper then sound device, marcb discovered it, but i know nobody who tested it..........:shiftyph34r:

Also, the sound department tend to have the more accurate clocks, certainly if you're using a temperature controlled one that the Cantar has. Most people would know the video camera clocks are TERRIBLE at holding sync even after a couple of hours.

If you have multiple cameras then the best way to go is to have a master clock that actually compares the timecode to itself and TELLS you how far it's drifted rather than simply re-jamming it every now and then. A PA can simply run between the various devices and check the sync. Who wants to drag a Cantar or a RED around to 4 different cameras at a live recording of a concert for example...

Anyone done a test of the accuracy of the RED clock ?
