Just debating what is the best accessory to buy for our trusty RED ONE camera?

Planning to buy some but since I didn't get a hands-on-take on some of the accersories RED has to offer, I'm confused.

I like the 5.6 LCD but the 7" LCD is coming?

EVF, some are shipping, but I never got chance at NAB 2007 because of the crowds in the small tent waiting and waiting...all because of one fat guy hogging the camera like Lord of the Rings (Golum comes to mind) "Mine, Mine", had the camera for 1/2 hr; no chance to view and be delighted.

Mattebox? RedRock if you can get one. Arri, of course...

FF? RedRock...seems good, or trusty Arri...but expensive like German's cars.

Any suggestions will be great; even thrid parties ventors too. I'm all ears.

Thanks.

Of course I have to recommend our Monstercine accessories for Red. Most are available for sale on our site at www.monstercine.com and the rest will be on the site next week.

- Hydra Quick Release Clamp for mounting your LCD to either 15mm or 19mm rods in combination with our 1/4-20 Quick Spud that attaches to the LCD arm. LINK

- Cyclops folding Focus Hook - mounts to Red Top Mount LINK

- Reduction sleeves for converting 19mm rod holes on Red top mount or universal mount to 15mm

- 3/8 Quick Spud for attaching to any 3/8 threaded accessory or LCD arm to make it quick releasable with our Hydra Clamp

- XL-Remote Stop-Start Switch with active Tally Light - works via standard XLR audio cable. LINK

- Light Spud for mounting standard 5/8 on-camera lights to our Hydra Clamp

- Quick Shoe Spud for mounting any mic or other shoe-adapted device to our Hydra Clamp

- Quick Key - replacement knob for the Red Side Handle screws and any other 1/4-20 threaded screw for accessory mounting. LINK

We dressed up our Red with a great little matte box made by Birns & Sawyer called the Raven, available on the web site or in their LA store - ask for Steve Tobenkin.

FF we purchased a used Arri FF2 adn it works great - much better price than new ones.

There's a mixed response to the EVF. It's all about critical focus and you can achieve that pretty well with the LCD and the built in zoom double button on the side of the Red. There are many opinions about the EVF, but it's a very cool unit. It's surprisingly large and heavy and needs good mounting like the ET EVF mount.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jim,

I got a chance to brouse through you website, cool stuff. Hope you do well selling those accessories.

I'll check out your suggestions with mattebox & FF.

About the EVF, I would like to see & feel it first hand then just buy it and not liking it. I wish they had a RED store (retail) that woud be cool.

Thanks for you suggestions.

My set up was cost effective and works great.
- Red EVF (I like to red arm better the ET, more possibilities in terms of mounting and rock solid)
- Red LCD
- Redrock Micro FF
- Redrock Micro Mattebox
- And Standard Red 19mm Rod setup.

- Works perfect for my needs.

Thanks PMascetta,

That's what I was thinking...not sure about RED Evf just yet. Would like to feel and view it first before I buy.

what is ET?

How are you recording, CF or REDdrive (320gb) brick?

Thanks.

How do you make it work with the micro FF witch is 15mm and micro Mattebox witch are 19mm? I'm very keen to use this setup to.

ET= Element Technica.
I use CF cards. I would recommend at least 4 cards. The 8gb cards work great but 16gb is way better.

Just get the red 19-15mm adapter with 3inch rods from element technica. Works great. Or you can wait for when Redrock Micro releases their 19mm FF upgrade adapter.

Just mounting the RR FF straight onto a RED universal mounts works. You just need a longer carriage bolt than the one that comes with the FF. You also get 15mm rod support for free at that point.

Cool. Thanks. I was thinking of five CF with two HD CF portable units.

16gb is great, but the price...heh...you can get the 8gb cheaper. Lexar 300x.

Cheers.

Judo -- I just saw this in another thread and bought one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/19mm-to-15mm-Br...VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

It lets you use 15mm accessories on a 19mm RED setup, without needing extra rods. The user was specifically using it for the RedRock Follow Focus, although not in conjunction with the Mattebox. I still think it would work for you and it's relatively cheaper than most other solutions.

Can you still use the RED handle mount and the 15mm adapter together?

I don't see why not. The adapter would go close to the camera body, the matte box in front of that and the handles out in front of the matte box. You could always get longer rods, or just push the ones you have out a little further.

EDIT: Man, I really need to change my username.
