Hello everyone,

We've finally posted a trailer for our 30 min. short film, The Horseman.
You can check it out here: www.horsemanthefilm.com

We finished it using Redcine via Crimson, (fantastic app) and FCP. The final film will be color graded elsewhere.

Right now we're in the middle of scoring, sound design and vfx, and are still on target for a Halloween release date. (details forthcoming)

I've been watching everyone's work here periodically, and I'm truly impressed with the quality. Keep up the great work RED users!

Hope you all enjoy the trailer!

this looks great. you should have gone all the way and made it a feature. I think you could definitely sell this

We hope to... we've got a feature version ready to go, but we just didn't have the money to do it. I think people would be surprised with the relatively tiny budget we had for this project. Thanks to RED, we could afford to put all of our money up on screen and not on processing film. ;-)

Ben,

very impressive. I know the trailer clip is quite small and the interiors seem completely devoid of noise. Is that the case in 2k?

Are you planning on submitting to festivals?

thanks,
Omar

Beautiful cinematography. Absolutely stunning. It makes me more excited than ever to get my camera.

I think the trailer definitely needs some work, however. I would recommend making it shorter, or using a wider variety of locations (you have a lot of stills that didn't show up in the trailer). This would help increase the pace, especially at the beginning.

Most importantly though, modern professional trailers typically avoid just playing excerpts straight from the film. You very rarely see a character actually saying his lines in a trailer. It's much more effective to have the line playing as voiceover as you look at a dramatic shot that is related to it.

I look forward to watching the complete version. Incredible production value.

I love it that "Hollywood" doesn't have to be in Hollywood, CA anymore!

Great work.

cut that trailer by 1/2 and your trailer would be PERFECT..just a tad long....

Amazing!

Also, I'd chime in the other way, I like the longer trailer, I think a lot of people cut trailers to look like Hollywood trailers, cut to fast music, with voice over etc. But how many indie trailers have you seen where you wonder if there's really a film behind it, if there's a story worth seeing.

Hollywood trailers can be what they are 'cause every time we see a vague super fast shot of a transformer, or a famous actor etc, we imagine an epic film behind it.

When we see an unproven directors trailer, full of vague shots and implied story lines, we assume it will be like a lot of the other indie trailers we've seen, an undeveloped idea, that will probably fall apart in longer format.

What you've done with your trailer is shown that there is actually something there, you've got good storytelling chops, it's cinematic etc.

I for one, would buy a ticket, and that's what a trailer's there to do. Nicely done!

(just my two cents, I know it's unlike a Hollywood trailer, but in this case, I think it's for the best!)

It's funny watching a trailer that I know you shot just up the road from me. GREAT looking footage that seems really like the period. Also, good work on the audio. I'm seeing alot of great picture with HD stuff, but audio that doesn't match the picture. Good to see you all got it right.

BTW, you all really impressed our local film commissioner with the RED...so much so that he couldn't wait until I got mine!

Matthew
