Just did some more playing with my RED #476 (MOTHER) and the latest build 16 today, and found that the QT proxies are waaaay too dark (underexposed) to be of any use to me...

Anyone else get this?

My files are nicely exposed, I have the curves as I used to with previous builds, and everything is fine in redcine, but attempting to use the QT proxies - they are just to dark...
EDIT: By looking at the QT proxies it looks like the camera only handles 6 stops of exposure, it´s a lot harder on the contrast than it used to be, as far as I am able to tell...

Did all the upgrades, latest everything- FCP, QT, REDapps etc...

Am I missing something?

Mine were dark too, then I set QuickTime gamma to 2.2 and high quality. Now they look great!

I forget where I set this. A colleague mentioned it on our first RED shoot.

Thanks for the suggestion Jim, unfortunatly I already have checked the gamma 2.2 box/high quality when available, so that´s not the sollution to my problem unfortunatly.

Hmm, maybe I am making a fuss about nothing... having scrutinised the images a bit futher my conclusion is maybe I am wrong and came here too fast...

here are the images side by side, was rather high contrast today.

(the images are very nice, especially after a bit of tweaking in REDCINE, have to say I love build 16 so far!)

That really looks like the quicktime gamma bug. Quicktime is broken, has been for years, and there's no word on Apple doing anything about it.

Try exporting the footage to DPX or other image file - anything that you do NOT view in quicktime or quicktime player, and see if the shift is still there.

cheers,

jt
