  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Log & Transfer Crashing?

Reinhart,

Thanks for your investigation. My work flow is as follows:

Shoot on drive or CF and copy files to a separate drive.

Disconnect Red drive or CF

Open FCP and in a project open L & T and direct path to the files on the new drive.

Start transfer with Native settings on Preferences.

Now at this point if after transfer is finished and I go to close the L & T window...FCP crashes and no files are saved...Ughh But if before closing the L & T window I "Save All"in FCP then close the L & T window (which again makes a crash) all i need to do is restart FCP and the files are there.

Latest FCP and QT on Macbook pro 10.5.4 Build 16 footage

Thanks in advance

Taylor

Hmmm, just what I thought you'd say, in terms of workflow. I just did the
exact same steps on my MacBookPro with no problems. Only difference
appears to be that I'm running OSX 10.4.11. I don't have direct access to
a 10.5.4 machine but will find someone who does.

Thanks for the info and your patience,

Craig

I am running this same set up and just updated my camera to b16 v3.2.1,
codec 3.1.0, and did not see a crash. Also tried it on an iMac and had no
problems.

I'm looking into possible causes but it's difficult when I can't recreate the
problem. Keep feeding me any little details you can.

When I try installing Log & Transfer, my computer says it cannot install to the mac volume and that I should check my system requirements. I have a mac pro 8-core 2.8GHz and 10GB of RAM. Why won't this work? I couldn't get earlier versions to install either.

Thanks.

Make sure you have FCP 6.0.4

I am on leopard which is 10.5, Tiger ended at 10.4.11 so that might be the problem.

I have 6.04 qt codec 3.1.0 and and quicktime 7.5.

Leopard is fully 64 bit native so its not just a small version change.

I'm trying to get through all this talk of crashes and am somewhat confused as to where we stand. Can you tell me the *exact* steps taken to cause
the crash.
We've done a lot of testing here and not seen a crash with this build but that
doesn't mean it won't happen, just means we're doing something different than all of you.

my steps are ABSOLUTELY identical as Taylor's in his last post.

BUT!
i need to add something i forgot: am working in PAL area - so my projects are 25 frames!!!

maybe THAT is important?

I'm trying to get through all this talk of crashes and am somewhat confused as to where we stand. Can you tell me the *exact* steps taken to cause
the crash. For instance:

1) mount RED CF card shot with build 16
2) start FCP
3) opened L&T window which automatically loaded clips from CF card
.....
n) closed L&T window

We've done a lot of testing here and not seen a crash with this build but that
doesn't mean it won't happen, just means we're doing something different than all of you.

I suspect there may be an issue with RED volumes and that moving the
media to a "standard" disc drive and using the mount button in the L&T
window (or dragging the media onto the L&T browser pane) might help
to get around this but again, I've not seen a crash as such.

Thanks.

Ah, yes, I'm not directly mounting the REDflash. All of my footage files are once copied to hard disk drives.

Im running this same thing. 4k files, 24fps. All the latest updates are in place. Crashes on exit of log and transfer....

Same here.

how many of you that are getting crashes are running os 10.5?

Rest assured, it's not an OSX or QT version problem. It's just a good ol'
code issue. We've isolated the offending construct and are testing a fix now.

Thanks for your patience,

Great Craig. Looking forward for the fix.

Same config and problem

Same config and problem

Just updated to the same config as Taylor today and had the exact same results. Everything works until you close the L&T window. Then, FCP crashes.

It would have been my pleasure to blame someone else. But alas, that
wasn't to be. Fixed version will be released later today. I'm just waiting
on a bit of information from Rob.

Just wondered if the new version had been posted. Release history didn't seem to indicate any updates.

Great, thank you.

I noticed one thing, maybe my imagination, but does L&T takes longer with 16:9 clips?
