  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Camera Power Problems

With Red power system unfortunately, swapping to other power sources creates its own nest of problems--no in camera power metering, surprise shut-downs due to camera thinking battery is wall power (unstable wall power), etc.

There was a pretty significant existing commitment to Anton Bauer up here. After problems everyone converted to RED batteries.

On the whole, I think understanding the details with pins and plastic wear that Afton mentions allows one to use RED bricks & plates more reliably. Also, RED is apparently working on improved plates due to this significant source of on-set failures.

Probably a good idea to ride it out with RED on this one.

The V-lock battery system has proven itself reliable for years before the RED came out, which is why this is so strange.

I've got off brand v-mount batteries and I've never had a problem. Never had the battery pop off, never had a loose connection etc. Sounds like a RED battery case design flaw...

Investigated this a couple of months back and saw the pins became too narrow over multiple insertions.
They also only inserted into the sockets to a depth of .5cm
They are cheap compression pins that after too many insertions, narrow to a diameter which won't touch the insides of the battery socket.
Plastic shavings would certainly exacerabate this problem.
