  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Log & Transfer Crashing?

The new Log and Transfer is crashing on me but I've only tried with a boot drive with QT7.5, then I tried installing it to the software versions recommended by RED, OSX 10.5.2, QT 7.4.5 and FCP 6.0.2 but new L&T won't install to FCP 6.0.2 (it tells me to use FPC 6.0.3). Now I'm updating the OSX to 10.5.3 because FCP won't update to 6.0.3 unless I update the OS.

It seems the versions described in the recommended version section, so after I figure out the compatible versions and I will post the info.
 
Hm, new L&T plugin does mention FCP 6.0.4 is needed so I have to update the QT to 7.5 in order to do that. I guess RED is going to validate QT7.5 now? QT7.5 seems to be affecting the stabilities for 3rd party video hardware so 3rd parties have to hurry and update their drivers (especially Matrox MXO).
 
I figured it out. Matrox MXO driver was causing the crash. I uninstalled the MXO driver then it works fine. I informed Matrox, so I hope they can come out with the fix. MOTU V3HD is working fine.

also, have crashes here, but without matrox. but maybe it is because i am using footage from unstable 16B where recording error ocured. i do not have new 16b footage. (camera is on remote location). maybe someone is capable to send a link with small in size r3d footage from b16 (v. 3.2.1)

just tested with 15b footage. crashes again. have no idea why...

doesn't matter if 16b footage is inside the same project or not - crashes again.

maybe someone has similar problems?

btw i was unable to install L&T for build 16 without installing QT 7.5

It might be because of OSX Tiger. 10.5.4 with Mac Pro is working okay.

Guess what? I'm typing this post with my 3g iPhone.

I was thinking the crash come from RED frame size with extra video hardware but you're having problems just Mac Book Pro alone.

I do have similar crash upon quitting FCP. QT7.5's been not so solid so we have to wait for Apple's fix?

When I try installing Log & Transfer, my computer says it cannot install to the mac volume and that I should check my system requirements. I have a mac pro 8-core 2.8GHz and 10GB of RAM. Why won't this work? I couldn't get earlier versions to install either.

yes, the same thing i was receiving prior to upgrading L&T.

in my case - i needed to install QT 7.5 and update to FCP 6.0.4. (previous version was 6.0.2 on my comp.) installed and - it crashes... :(

The new L&T plug-in requires FCP6.0.4, thus you have to install QT7.5.
Although the update note mentions that you can use from QT REDCODE above 3.0, I'm using the latest 3.1.0 since I have build16 footage. Any footage prior to build16 are working, too, only problem is that FCP crashes when quitting the application.
 
i installed red QT codec 3.1.0 AGAIN.

but!


there is a hope. crashes, but now i am smarter than before.

1. transfer via L&T
2. SAVE project imediatelly without closing L&T
3. close L&T
-- program crashes--
4. run FCP again.
5. now it works

same here log and transfer save then exit and crash
 
When I try to transfer a clip my status symbol just cycles and stops. It never converts the footage. Any ideas?

do you have the clip icon or just a black sq? I reinstalled the first one and had that problem. reinstalled latest qt and removed old one reinstalled plug in
and now I can get clips out but still crashes, but clips are fine
 
I was having the same issue that FCP crashed on me every time I was transfering P2 material!! I fixed the problems of the P2 footage using the preferences setting in the L&T window and telling FCP to use the P2 Plug in. So make sure you are using the REd plug in the L&T preferences!!

I'm trying to get through all this talk of crashes and am somewhat confused as to where we stand. Can you tell me the *exact* steps taken to cause
the crash. For instance:

1) mount RED CF card shot with build 16
2) start FCP
3) opened L&T window which automatically loaded clips from CF card
.....
n) closed L&T window

We've done a lot of testing here and not seen a crash with this build but that
doesn't mean it won't happen, just means we're doing something different than all of you.

I suspect there may be an issue with RED volumes and that moving the
media to a "standard" disc drive and using the mount button in the L&T
window (or dragging the media onto the L&T browser pane) might help
to get around this but again, I've not seen a crash as such.

Thanks for your investigation. My work flow is as follows:

Shoot on drive or CF and copy files to a separate drive.

Disconnect Red drive or CF

Open FCP and in a project open L & T and direct path to the files on the new drive.

Start transfer with Native settings on Preferences.

Now at this point if after transfer is finished and I go to close the L & T window...FCP crashes and no files are saved...Ughh But if before closing the L & T window I "Save All"in FCP then close the L & T window (which again makes a crash) all i need to do is restart FCP and the files are there.

Latest FCP and QT on Macbook pro 10.5.4 Build 16 footage
