this is more of a fcp issue (i think) than red but i am trying to apply effects to 4k scaled down to 1080 prores...

i'm running the latest 8 core mac pro with 10 gigs of ram and ati radeon hd 2600 and i'm trying to simply apply effects to my 1080p pro res hq clips. everything i try to do comes up with this error message

"the effect _______ cannot render this media at full resolution. the media will be scaled at 1414x795 in order to render."

it ruins my sequence to mix and match resolutions. even when i scaled down everything to 720p, i get the same message. i've never seen this before and i'm working with standard quicktime resolutions so what gives?

i'm running the newest (i also tried it on the previous quicktime) quicktime and os x. btw-the same mac pro config at my office and software versions does not have this issue at all. re-install fcp?

thanks.

drop a clip onto a new SEQ. Accept it to conform seq to media.

chk and compare the settings FCP gives the new SEQ against the one giving issues.

What effects are you trying to render?

s

i'm in the office right now (with the mac pro that seems to work fine) but i'll try a new sequence when i get home. but last night i checked the sequence settings and they all seemed to match up with the clip's settings. every effect (both realtime and not) i try gives the same error message. and the messages vary a little too. some say my video card does not support this resolution and others don't even mention the card. anyway, i know it works because it did just recently. in fact, i think the only thing that has changed since it last worked was build 16 but i know it's not that.

thanks for the quick response.

yeah i think its an issue of how your project.seq settings are set. what codec are you set to?

i'm exporting 1080 prores hq out of redcine and dropping it into a fresh timeline. i double checked the auto conform and it looks right but i must admit that creating a new sequence and trying again has solved similar issues in the past.

my question has remained unanswered for 12 hours on the apple forums. thanks for the quick response.

happy to help.

If you just getting issues and all clips are prores.. this isn't a red issue.

Maybe gfx card. I know Plugins such as MagicBullet Looks has resoloution limits depending on card and ram.

What were the fx you were trying that gave errors?

Si

Ahh ok.

Are you doing those on single clips or a entire timeline?

seriously those things are best left to either Color or AE/Shake/Motion

though if thats ya bag doing it in FCP at 1080 applying many glows n filter it may bomb..

I doubt the glow/stlize filters are that great compared to the above options..

have you tried send to motion and applying in there ?

How much ram you got ?

Though going of the very specific error maybe the effects are rez limited :-/

got it

got it

so i was still getting "video card depth and resolution is not high enough" kind of error messages so i switched to 8 bit yuv and voila. it's a shame to go down to 8 bit but i do have a deadline to meet.

thanks guys.
